Hi there
Great to see what you have been up to - I admire the skill level of you digital artists :buttrock:
About your clay-sculpts… what clay are you using (is it grogged / eathenware (assume) or stomeware (prob not)? sometimes over-wetting clay while working, can cause it to crack (or the opposite where thinner or more exposed parts… dry out before other areas and cause cracks) which I agree is very discouraging! despair not
there are ways to save even dry pieces which have cracks…
Paper clay - the wonderous fix it all: either use ready made paper-clay - or make your own by mulching newspaper in water to a slurry like mixture - letting it sit for a while, and running it through a blender before mixing it at a suitable proportion with clay… 30-50% dried paper pulp can work well, maybe start with a little less say 30 paper to 70 clay (all this depends on the clay you are using…) The great thing about the paper clay is that it gives enormeous drying strength to the clay (is hopeless to throw on the wheel, but great for sculptural work), and also reduces the weight of the fired piece - as the paper will burn out.
You can use paper clay as a “fix it slurry” working it into cracks on dried pieces (using the normal method of scouring the clay-surface and really working the clay into the crack - beyond the cracked area, to give that extra support once it dries.
Sorry if this was a ramble
Hope all is well and look forward to more updates
cheers and take care
