Sketchbook Thread of Cati

#1

Hello,

I have so long wanted to start my own sketchbook here but I haven’t had the courage before. I really want to improve my drawing skills and I’ve managed to postpone the inevitable (meaning DAILY practise) this far. Now I’m determined to take the time in my “busy” life and do something about it. I consider myself a beginner although I’ve been drawing all my life and even done a bit freelance art (just a little bit).

And I’m sorry my start isn’t anything bigger than a study of mouths and a nose but I’m taking this one step now and once it’s taken I’d be ashamed to stop there. Comments are of course very welcome…

The picture attached took me about one hour of careful work…

hi cati
welcome to the forums.i only want to giv one crit based on the sketches you posted.i feel you shud do some gesture sketches, that will help you eliminate the broken lines that comes in your drawing.i had to battle with that problem for long while and once out of the way it gives you lot of time to think about other things apart from how lines r goin .i feel a lot more braver in experimenting too now .your color sense is gr8.hope to see more updates from you

Ah yes! Killermachine, you are absolutely right there. I have never realized that I’m doing the broken lines but now that you pointed it out I do see the problem. Thank you so much for the crit and the suggestion how to start fixing it! I shall get right to it…
