Sketchbook Thread of Anthony

#1

Hello everyone. I am still fairly new to the digital illustration scene but have been practicing for the last year in preparation for artschool this coming fall. I have been very impressed with the quality of work that I have seen on this forum and the critiques that are given. I have decided to start my own thread so that I can get the critiques that will point me in the right direction to become a better artist. Thank you for viewing my illustrations & thanks in advance for any critiques that are given!

This is the 1st illustration that I did after reading a book by Don Seegmiller. This is a portrait of my Godson at 6 months created in PS CS2. Critiques and comments welcome.

more updates. These are actually old but I am still open to c&c. Does anyone know how to have an animated picture that automatically cycles through your process changing to a new picture every 3 seconds or so?

This is an illustration that I did of my Grand Mother for my parents as a christmas gift. She passed away a few years ago but this was her favorite picture so I decided to illustrate it. C&C are GREATLY welcomed. Thanks.

Hi there,

I think I’ve seen these pieces around the forums in different places  - any new projects in mind?

#8

You are right Rebecca. I had posted these two before. This is my latest piece. I was going to copy one of the master paintings and got bored (ADD) so I decided to do my picture with a little twist. This was originally going to be the Apostel by Rembrandt. I decided to make it the Apostel by Rembr’Anthony. So this is my master works / self portrait piece. The one thing that I am having trouble with is the mouth. I need to learn how to render lips. I hope you enjoy. C&C always welcome!

Does anyone know how to create an animated .gif that will show the progression of your picture from a sketch to a finished piece? Thaks.

Hello,
Good work on the baby picture.

You could use Adobe Image Ready to make an animated gif, or try this http://www.makeagif.com/ . I haven’t try it but it looks promising.

Hi, nice work, I like the colors you’re using. What I think doesn’t work too well however are your backgrounds. The one on the man above is too black, I think it’d work better if it just gradually gets darker in that direction. Also the spackled background on the painting of your grandmother looks too rushed and doesn’t fit with the style you painted her in(which I think looks really nice btw! :). It in fact is distracting and takes away from what you did well. It’d probably be better if you used solid shades of colors, like the patchy backgrounds that some of the old masters use.

Hey everyone. Here are some new pen and ink sketches that I have done. The first two are anatomy studies that I did from a book by Burne Hogarth. The last sketch is one just for fun of John Henry. Comments and critiques are welcomed and greatly apreciated. Thanks.

Great start to your sketchbook and love the colours. Looking forward to more…

Thanks Venuscia. I really apreciate the compliment! (Especially after seeing all of the quality work in your thread) I need to work harder at producing more consistent work to post to my thread. I have alot going on in my personal life but I’m going to try to make it a priority to put in at least 2 pieces a week.

Your Welcome! And thank you for your kind words regarding my work. I understand that personal life can be really hectic but I definately think trying to complete atleast two pieces a week is a great beginning  I know that i haven’t done anything for 3 years and now that I am trying to do a piece a day I feel much better.
