Hi …Alena…

Just stopping by to say that i’m really enjoying your work and thread…BEAUTIFUL WORK…
I’m still learning Z BRUSH myself…amazing program with endless possibilities… …A good DVD that Anand told me about awhile back, and which I bought, is…INTRODUCTION TO Z BRUSH 3 by MEATS MEIER.
It’s really helpful and he is easy to understand…There’s a great section in it on how to illustrate using Z BRUSH…plus everything else there is to know about the program in the way of sculpting ect…I just thought that I would mention it to you, in case you hadn’t heard about it and thought you might be interested in it…
Anyway…really looking forward to seeing more of your works…
TAKE CARE
Glenn

hi Anand,
glad to hear from you again

and - well - thanks for your base-meshes; I definitelly would like to try out - but - I am sorry, I have no clue of what “the bunch of numbers” (that I found following your links) could be useful for and - how to use it … what I am trying to say is - I assume those are some “pre-made” models/coordinates, are they? but - I have no idea of how to make use of it/ how to import/apply/load … ?? sorry, my bad, not at that level yet
I am only able to “pull and push” polygons of the polysphere with a few brushes, but - no other techniques/process/3d workflow skills so far :frowning:

but, thanks anyway, I am working hard on ZB, perhaps I will soon come to the level that I will be able to use more of ZB/3d workflow
thanks a lot!

hi Glenn,
nice you stopped by - and thanks, I am glad you are enjoying my thread
and - thanks for the tips - wow! - I would never ever thought of ZBrush as a painting/illustration program! this is really cool!
I´ll have to do some research on this
and - yes, the Meats Meier´s DVD looks very promissing, thanks for the tip!

and - hey Anand - thanks for the tip on DVD you gave to Glenn
as soon as I´ll try this technique, I´ll post some
take care, a.

Well, its quite simple… They are .obj files, which is a common format for 3d geometry. Go to the tool palatte in Zbrush, click on the “import” button. Select the baseMesh_male.obj file (for example) in the window and click open. Now the mesh is imported into your tool, and when you draw the tool on the canvas, you will see the 3d mesh that was in the .obj file. You can press “T” to enter edit mode and start sculpting. If you want a head alone, here is one:

You can find videos that cover all the zbrush basics here:

… aaah - as simple as that!
thanks, Anand!
I´ll try out …

… this time some “organic” studies,
the first one just my imagination, the seccond one is a rough study for a brain structure, the last one - a little example of pencil “whatever” (just tried out to lay down values and lines … and this study came up in the end … )

here it is …

#27

hi, just dropped in to add one little anatomy study, this time ZBrush;
I still have not much control over the sculpting process in ZB, so - well - I planned the ear to look a little bit different, in fact, but - here it is …

#28

from all of it… i really like first picture from #16

last study from z-brush is a little bit to flat :shrug:but i dont sculpt in 3d yet, so i just only describe my feelings

cheers

d.

hi, selphoo,
thanks for comments -
yes - last study from z-brush is a little bit too flat … and also a little bit too “clumsy”, I´d say
still beginner, essential sculpting skills only,
thanks for stopping by,
a.

… adding a portrait study,
this is a rough concept sketch for my personal “learning ZBrush” wip project,
she is a witch in fact (does not look like that, but in the end I plan to add some more “witch-like” details to the sculpted model) …

Hi…Alena…GREAT STUFF…

If you go to the top of screen in Z BRUSH…Select BRUSHES…CLICK ON that little open circle thing in the very top left side of brush menu,…will put that whole brush menu on the right side of your screen…press the big picture of the brush, and all of the brushes will become availible to select from…The INFLATE, NUDGE, AND MOVE BRUSHES might help you out with that ear that you just did…You can also just keep adding on with the CLAY TUBES BRUSH, CLAY BRUSH, and THEN use the SMOOTH BRUSH to smoot out diferent areas of the ear, like the lobe maybe.
Try making the brush BIG with the DRAW SIZE slider at top of your screen,…put the FOCAL SHIFT slider at 0, and then try sculpting at different settings with it …also the same with the INTENITY sliders.
Press the ZADD, and the ZSUB, at top of your screen, to add and subtract as you sculpt.
You might have already figured that stuff out, but I thought I would put it in here, just in case you hadn’t yet…hope you don’t mind., just trying to be helpful, and share with you the little that I do know about Z BRUSH…
Anyway, hope to see you in Anands new 3d workshop soon. There are a lot of GREAT 3D people in that workshop, that can help you learn more about Z BRUSH than I can…Everyone in that worksop is at a different level of learning 3D, and the shareing of knowlage in there, is what makes a great workshop…GREATER… …and YES, …REPOSE means RELAXED…in answer to your question in the workshop…
TAKE CARE and keep up the great work, and great progress…your thread is turning out to be a real pleasure to see and learn from…
Glenn

very nice expressive style in your works!

#33

Hi there,

I love your lines, they have so much life in them. I am also blown away by how much you can achieve with little color.

#34

hi Glenn!
you really read my mind - better aranging the ZB workspace is exactly what I need now! that “little open circle thing” helped a lot!
and as for the ZB brushes - I am trying to get familiar with them, but - as you can see, I´ll have to practice more …
and - thanks for that little English lesson as well
you are allways so helpfull, Glenn,
glad you like my work/thread

hi Del, thanks, I am glad you like my work!

hi Heozart, thanks! nice to hear that!

the colors you mentioned - “color information” is not as important to me as the values - as even the grayscale is quite enough to work with and to be able to express almost everything - so the color is just some kind of extra bonus for me in fact, and I rely/build upon the shadows/highlights above all (well - very often)
take care, a.

#35

its a pleasure going through the thread… nice work! nice style… potrait sketches are awesome… and also thanks for showing your work process in gif animations… enjoyed it,
the latest cartoon character with a beetle on his nose uploaded in your cgportfolio is my favourite… and the little cartoon you posted in frontpage is also very nice… (post#8) Great going…!

I have just updated my entry in ongoing “ANIMAL IN REPOSE” sculpting workshop, so I am posting here as well: my first “serious” animal anatomy ZBrush attempt, still wip, no detail yet …
hope you´ll like it, a.

#38

LOL is he leaning against that shell in repose? hehe very cool idea! Looks good so far

#39

Hey Magda!
yes, a little crazy (and tired) snail - the shell must be quite uncomfortable sometimes, I guess
thanks, a.

… another little update today -
finally some details on this guy,
experimenting with ZBrush polypainting and materials this time
still wip …

… after a while a new update on my wip/sculpting workshop snail again … still struggling a bit with subtools (this was the first time I used them), so the composition/materials/lighting are not quite as I wanted them to look like, but - so far I only was able to get to this point - so - here it is

and a pair of initial “animals in repose” concept studies for this composition …
