hey all!
new marine concept… getting closer and closer, to where i wanna go with this one.

hope you’ll like.
NR43: thanks alot. this is what happens when you spend hours looking at your childhood-rooms ceilling.
i actually do belive you can get some quite cool creatures outta stareing at plants, ceilling a fork or whatever. just let your imagination loose.
still need to get all my new drawings scanned. maybe i’ll get to that later today.
now i better go get something to eat.

hey all!
long time, no see.
-finally i got my new computer. yihaaaa…
here’s a couple of new speddies i did. the creature is from today (-more or less, just finished)
hope you’ll enjoy.

btw. still need to install the scanner, so i can get those from my sketchbook, up here.

Hey there! Great creature concepts, I really like them. Maybe you should spend some more time (a weekend?:)) on one thing, and I am sure that would produce beautiful finished painting/image…or maybe I am wrong, your concepts already look good enough :).
keep up!

Love that portrait, very loose and a lot of character. Seems like the creature has more bulk then the legs would be able to deal with easily… and while that does happen in the real world it’s usually not with the most spry / threatening of folk
It’ll be exciting to see where the new comp lets you go
hey all!
thanks alot for all the kinds words. means a great deal to me.
Womball: hehehe… -yes, i did and here’s a few of them.
ghoul: hey ivan. thanks alot. you are absolutely right. i’m struggleling with it. think i got too many things i wanna do.
thanks for the heads up.
kary: heheh… yeah! his weight might be a bit hard on those skinny legs.
i’ve made my first zb sculpt on my new computer (-look further down:))…
-well, finally got to scan in some of my drawings (-there’s a few of them, i think i’ll take a bit further) and doing a zb3 sculpt, to get to know the new brushes a bit better.
hope you’ll enjoy.

and the last of the scans…

and here’s the zb3 sculpt (-with a quick ps paintover)

btw. sorry for the blurry/crappy scans. my sketchbook was kinda too big for the scanner.

Hi Ramsus!! Love your sketches! It would be great to see the ones on the last post- last-but one image painted!:bounce:… or are you planning to make ZBrush sculpts of them? that would be great too!!
I like the variety in your characters above all
Still, your style is very recognizable!
Wonderful updates
hey you two!
thanks alot for the kind words and sorry for the late reply.
anandpg: thanks alot man. means a ton to me. yeah! i still do plan to work out some of the some more or make some in 3d.
NR43: thank you so much. though, i don’t think i got a style, myself. just mess…
i’ve got the “snailien” base-mesh done and started to sculpt it.
here’s a few picts of it.

i’ve got a bit further than this, but nothing big. i’ll show it to you soon.
ohh! btw. i changed my user-name to my real name… wuhuu -just thought i’d had to mention…
-r (-now this kinda makes sense:))
Hey Rasmus!
Superb sketches there and awesome 3d work!
The snailien is coming really nicely…I would love to see how good it ends up!
Keep posting its update…
looking forward to it…

Hey Ramsus!!.. awesome sculpt, the last one! one little critique: I think the structure of leg is kinda unusual in that it goes from the hip right to the heel joint, missing the knee… That sort of seems like it might limit his mobility.
hey guys!
here’s probally the last wip before texturing and posing.

rdsarna: thanks alot, ratul. glad you like it.
anandpg: hey anand! -thanks for dropping by. he does have a knee. it’s just reversed compared to a human.
-r
oh! ok… I thought it was meant to be the heel joint, as in hind legs of animals… Anyways, this is turning out awesome:thumbsup:… I like the way you do wrinkles and all… very refined and subtle!
hey anand!
once again. -thanks for the kind words. yeah! i see what you mean. it could have been a heel joint.
had worked much on him lately, been busy at work.
also dug up an old base-mesh for a golem. got all crazy aboutthe ideea, so i just had to do it.
so here it is.

hope to get back to the alien soon…

hey all!
here’s a few new picts. i worked a bit more on the different maps and got to do some texturing on some of the armor-parts.
still alot to do…

here’s the link the wip thread
c&c is very much welcome

Ok, for my taste his skin looks too saturated. But it might really just be my taste, see if anyone else will give you this crit. Other then that I think it’s progressing very well. Nice speculars, the model itself is very good. More armor on him would be great to see, like in the update you’ve posted here few posts back, maybe even more than that. Some story behind this guy could help you design it more easily.
I think if the enviro is going to be somewhat cartoony, the saturated skin colors may be a good idea. If not, I’d say making them less saturated might increase realism or believability.
It’s a great model though. He looks like a recon creature to me, lost on a strange planet. Maybe it’s the suit (if you can call it that).
I’m having a bit of an issue with the thing around his neck. I think the dark color is breaking the flow of his anatomy in that area. (the effect of his weird long neck is gone and it also makes him look as if he would have a hard time turning his head, assuming it’s a he
)
Hi Rasmus, your book looks great, lots of nice sketches.
Your models look great too, that snail-man looks really good, though I have to say I like more the unrendered model, I think that if you’r going for a cartoony I personally would prefer a less shiny rrendering, and the eyes don’t appeal much too me too.
And what happened with all the other “acessories” he had?
cheers, keep it up
