Sketch tools palette for PS CS4

#1

Built a custom palette for Photoshop with a number of tools for sketching/rendering. Developed primarily to replicate real world tools like pencils, ink and ball point pens, markers, and stippling emulation. Also includes some basic texturing brushes (grain, grit, fibers, powder coat, organic) and utility tools (straight line, gradient, glow, blend etc.). Has a built in one-click sketch pad canvas and color bar too.

It’s a free d/l, mac and windows compatible, so help yourself and pass it on.

Feedback is welcome-

This is simply awesome. Thank you for sharing all of these tools, the packaging is brilliant as well. A lot of work must have gone into each one of these tools, getting them just right. I will use this, thank you very much.

p.s. I am having trouble with the spray paint?? Seems to work with mouse, but not so much with styuls?

You’re very welcome  Not sure what might be causing the trouble with the spray paint tool. Are you having similar issues with the other tools, or only that one in particular? First thing I’d do is restart PS. Would be interested to know if that’s a problem with the tool though. If you do find a solve please post!

– btw
All of these settings can be overwritten. So if there’s something you don’t like about a particular tool and want to change it (modify nozzles, colors, starting size etc.), just get it the way you like and overwrite the tool preset for that tool. Same goes if you want to use your own canvas graphic.

When I use the stylus it draws a very razor thin line with seemingly no pressure sensitivity, making the brush bigger doesn’t help. Without changing anything and just using the mouse instead, it gives me a broad, spray paint like stroke, seemingly working fine. Every other brush and tool is working fine with both mouse and stylus and are phenomenal, again, you put a lot of attention to detail getting the settings to mimic the real world utensil and it’s put together in a great package. Also the Complementary color picking palette is a great learning and working tool. Thanks again.

What a bizarre effect… really sorry for the inconvenience of that tool not working right off for you, but I can’t think of what it would be. At first it sounds like a stylus setting issue (as it’s working on the mouse), but with other tools working fine on the stylus I’m completely boggled.

Have no idea if this will work for you as I can’t reproduce the behavior you’re seeing, but I’ve saved out that particular brush (spray paint) and uploaded it for you. Load it up, and create a new ‘Spray Paint’ tool preset based on it (set it to ‘air brush’ mode, opacity 100%, flow at 25%) - the Tool Presets panel won’t let you overwrite an existing preset, so you’ll either need to delete the old preset first, or edit the action to call your new preset). Any rate, hope this gets you some mileage!

nice idea tho i’m not getting any names up…

why do you need to keep your software online? that’s quite a lot to ask from people i think

It’s a limitation of the build environment for the panel. There’s currently no way in Adobe Configurator to embed a bitmap image. The only two ways to use external images are either by a net link or local file reference. I chose the netlink as there’s no way for me set an explicit local location that’s going to be compliant cross-platform. It’s not ideal by any means. I also really don’t like the border it lops on images.

The next question is ‘why use bitmap text as opposed to plain text?’. That has to do with the final panel size. Using plain text results in a final panel size approx. 50% larger, as the embeddable text is a number of points bigger (definitely not pixel type). Screen real estate isn’t cheap, and I have this panel up all the time - so keeping the footprint down is important.

I’m currently looking for some decent js resources in order build the panel proper within the PS devkit. Hoping that a future version will overcome this requirement - maybe even with an automated installer! (ha!)

sounds like a plan. i’ll keep my eyes open

Check your ‘Tool Presets’ palette, make sure the checkbox at the bottom ‘Current Tool Only’ is unselected. Please post back or pm me if you’re still having any trouble.
