Hey all,
Thought I would share a little project from this past weekend: for my drawing class, we had to take a 18"x18" charcoal drawing painstakingly created from a photographic reference and make it appear flat (ie, make the viewer aware that it was an illusion; that it was an image of fruit and not fruit itself - such as Magritte’s famous “This is not a pipe” painting).
With the help of Wings and messiah, I somehow managed to finish the four renders in the wee hours of the morning. Although I am comfortable in Wings, I have not done much with messiah:Studio (despite owning it for ~15 months) other than an animation experiment or two. The texturing, lighting, and rendering aspects were completely new to me, and as such probably took me much longer than it should have to set up and tweak. But I did learn a lot, and I was pleasantly suprised by the results. Each frame took between 21 and 30 minutes to render at 2200x1700 with a 2800+ and one gig of RAM, which I thought was fairly reasonable considering that I probably cranked the GI and AA settings up more than necessary.
I also have to thank Chikega for his GI video tut - between that and the manual, I was able to work my way through the render tab. Anyway, this project is nothing special but it’s something different than what you usually see on these boards, and as it increased my admiration for messiah I thought I would share. On with the pics (the first is a photo of the actual drawing)!
