simple constraints in messiah

#1

hi there
i wanted to check out messiah (new price etc. bla bla :)) but i was wondering why there are no standard constraints like “looking at” or "“path constraints”.how i can do thingsl like that in messiah? only with expressions? coz i´m not a td, i have no clue about expressions and i hoped there is an easier way than expressions. maybe u can tell me how that worx, especially the path constraint ( a box follows a path). or do u know where i can read something about expressions in messiah or constraints, the manual in messiah is a little bit “uhm”.

ps: i already checked out threads on cgtalk or zoogono.com

Hi n-drew,

the things that are called a ‘constraint’ in Animation:Master or a ‘motion modifier’ in LW are called expressions in messiah. The main advantage of messiah compared to other packages is the fact that all expressions are in the command tab and it is completely transparent in which order these expressions are evaluated (in LW, I could never figure out whether motion modifier of object A gets evaluated before or after motion modifier of object A  ) .
Expressions are much easier in messiah than in other packages. In the documentation, all functions are listed by name or category and there are also a few tutorials.

To answer your questions, the ‘Looking At’ constraint is called ‘Target’ in messiah, while the ‘Path constraint’ can be achieved by the functions ‘MoveToCurveParam/MoveToCurveLength’ or ‘AlignToCurveParam/AlignToCurveLength’. Have a look at this thread.

ok, it seems i didn´t search the forum very well, shame on me. thx guys for the helping hand.
btw…for me, an “artist”, it seems a little bit complicated in messiah to do a simple path constraints, coz in other programs u have just to click on “path constraints” …much easier (4 me) than “…The main advantage of messiah compared to other packages is the fact that all expressions are in the command tab…” <— can´t agree atm, sry… but i checked it out and now i can see the world in 110010010101
ok, thx again…i
