Sideshow Idea - Mauled Boy

A family, around the turn of the century was traveling to a new homestead far off in the country. The family had to travel through the mountains and heavily wooded areas to reach their destination. During their travel they were attacked by wild, hungry bears. The parents and a teenage boy were immediately killed and fed upon. There was one young boy remaining. He had been attacked and was being eaten alive.
An animal trainer, from a traveling circus, came upon the bears while he was hunting for food. He shot his gun and frightened the bears away. The young boy was severely scarred and injured. The circus folk did all they could do to save the boy’s life. Although, they could never erase the scars physically or emotionally of his tragic encounter with the bears. He is now a fixture in the sideshow act of the circus. He carries with him a stuffed teddy bear, of which he had ripped the head off to show his hatred towards bears.

I have a sketch but, now I have to draw it again in Photoshop.

So awesome… i think the bear should have its head but mangled aswell… maybe have a torn off arm or legs?

Cool concept, I like it.

It would be cool if he had some bandages on one of his arms or something, somewhere, making him look a bit more freshly messed up, like maybe it’s a constant occurrence to him, due to really nasty household pet pit-bull that wants to establish dominance over the child
all the time. I’m sure child abuse laws were les strict back then than they are now.

Just a thought,
Cool drawings you got there, they look like old photographs of the time, but drawings instead of photographs.

ionanism: Interesting input. I like the idea… you would hope his
current guardians would help prevent that kind of behaviour. :slight_smile: Actually, in his case it was a fortunate one time only event that has left him in this state. Modeling in progress… i’ll post something later tonite.

Ok, I’ve been away a bit. I did a little modeling and here is my current progress. I’ve checked out the other works in progress and you guys have some crazy stuff going on really cool! :thumbsup:

Your model is comming along nicely. I would definately model the huge gash on his head into the geometry to give it depth. I think scars are the key here. Maybe look for some photos of shark-bite victims on the web for texure reference later.

Thanks for you comments. I was tooling around with the idea of just doing the deep scars with normal maps or modeling it in. But, since you suggested, I went ahead and put it in the mesh.

I figured he was at a decent poly level to put it in. He is currently
2106 Polys. Editable Mesh in 3dsMax triangulated. At the moment I am messing around with clip maps for his hair. Then on to unwrapping! Woot.

Looking good i really think your capturing your concept well, gotta make the wikid smile look like the concept, cause i really like that :slight_smile:

Baaah888, I went back and tweaked at the mouth for a bit until I felt I captured his expression in the concept like you mentioned. I think it pushes the model a bit more now. I also modeled in a couple more scars on his face as well and mangled his left hand.

I still need to work on the Clip Maps for that hair. :slight_smile:

looking sweet mate, i dont know whats not quite right about the other side of the mouth tho, possibly make the tooth on that side a little bigger or nearer the front of the mouth. :thumbsup:
