Nice pics there, btate. Looks like a pretty rough neighborhood you live in.

And I have that exact same Staples desk, only you got ripped! I got a floor display close-out and paid $40 for it.

#902

I like that picture on the wall

#903

Hey Yes indeed it was, reading issue 105 “Body Shop” now that is also a must see Issue!

Love peoples Rigs and setups!

Since this image, the screen has grown to a Samsung 22inch.
And, the great South Australian Coopers Stout has be refreshed----several ,several times!

My dindjy little corner of the world… (sorry if the pic is a bit dark!)

I like working in this kinda light! lol!

#906

I figured I’d toss up a couple pics of my rig. First thing you should probably know is I’m a hardware fetishest, so I tend to spend more than I should on my computer  It’s a fun hobby and it pays off in render time really quick!

This rig was pieced together over the last 6 months or so with whatever extra cash I had on hand, I have a hard time turning down a really good deal.

Specs:
Abit IP35Pro
Q6600 @ 3.45ghz
4gb Corsair DDR2 800
Corsair 620HX PSU
EVGA 8800GT 512
1.5ish TB of HD storage (the collection just keeps growing, 4 drives atm).
Rocketfish Case (cheap score!)
Headphones are Sennheiser 555’s in this pic, but I’ve just got a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770’s, they’re sick, I highly recomend them.
Also not show is my homebrew SOHA hybrid headphone amp

#907

Wow, that’s one of the cleanest case internals I’ve seen. Did you deliberately buy microAtx components for an atx case just to keep the insides tidy? That’s some serious dedication to your hardware fetish

#908

Haha. No, those are not micro ATX internals…the case is just HUGE. It’s sitting next to dual 24" monitors :). I’m glad you like the organization. I hang out at the [h]ardforum a lot so I pick up their habits (hardforum.com). Those guys have the cleanest cases I’ve ever seen in my life. They complained that there were fingerprints on the aluminum when they saw that pic :stuck_out_tongue:

#909

My home rig…
I use this for freelance work, while I am not working for a studio.
Before I used to assemble my pc´s, but now i buy premade systems.
I think this solution give me less problems hardware-wise.
This is important if you are on a tight deadline

#910

Funny, I find that I have less problems hardware-wise when I build it myself. What you learn from build it yourselfing can save you a lot quicker and cheaper than customer support can. I just saved myself from a dead hard drive by doing something customer support would never do. I swapped out the circuit board on a seagate drive and was able to save all the information on what customer support would have told me was a lost cause.

Btw, citizen-insane, thanks for the link. It’s a very interesting forum. One question, don’t you run into heat problems having the power supply below the motherboard? And also, why do you have 620w power supply? Considering you have four drives and and 8800 and four gigs of ram, seems to me you are cutting it close. Also I noticed that you have the drives floating at the base of the case, pretty much stacked on each other in a cage without empty spaces between them and no ventilation. Must generate a lot of heat on those drives, that could shorten their lifespan and affect performance. My two cents: I think that you should put an internal fan on them and put a little rubber pad underneath the drive cage to minimize vibrations. But that’s just my humble opinion

#911

Hey mookiemu

There are some advantages of building your self, but I backup a lot, and the
one time I had a problem with hardware it was fixed the same day by my supplier.

Maybe im getting to old for the technical stuff

#912

I hear you and I understand that.

Funny, I’m probably older than you and I’m more into tinkering than ever before. I find it relaxes me in my old age.

#913

Hehe, Im from 69, and you?
Im getting to old for this

#914

Your Bolex is one of the most drool-worthy gear shots posted thus far

Is it in working order still? There’s something magical about watching an old Regular 8 or Super 8 film, almost wish there was an economical solution to transfer CG animation to Super 8. Now THAT would be frickin’ awesome…

#915

As a college student, I usually don’t have money to spend on computer equipment (or food or gas, for that matter!), but back in March I decided I wanted to build a new desktop for my 3D class this fall, as well as some possible freelance work that might be coming soon. Besides saving money on the side from my job, I entered a game design competition, and ended up winning the grand prize, which was two EVGA 9800 GTX+'s, and $1,000 USD. I added that to my savings, and finally two weeks ago I was able to build my new system:

      CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000 Case
      XFX 780i nVidia chipset motherboard
      Intel Q9450 2.66ghz (stock) Quad-Core CPU (12mb L2 cache)
      8GB Corsair DDR2 RAM overclocked to 966mhz
      Dual(SLI) EVGA 9800 GTX+ graphics cards
Dual WD 320GB hard drives in RAID 0 array
  CD-RW/DVD-RW combo
      Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound
      Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
    Samsung 2253BW 22: Widescreen LCD at 1680x1050
Razer Pro Mouse and aluminum mouse pad
    Saitek Eclipse II blue-backlit keyboard

Here's a look at my current setup (Note that this was taken before I set up my surround sound speakers):

Next to my computer in those first few images is my 17" Hypersonic laptop, which I got as a gift when I started college two years ago. It's perfect for just about any design work, except for rendering. The neat thing is, I have remote desktop set up so I can use my laptop to start a project, and then drop it onto my desktop for rendering. :)

  Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33ghz
  2GB Mishkin DDR2 RAM
  200GB 7200rpm hard drive
  nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GX2
  DVD-RW/CD-RW combo
  17" glossy widescreen at 1920x1200

For those of you that haven't heard of Hypersonic, check them out at [http://www.hypersonic-pc.com/](http://www.hypersonic-pc.com/) . I prefer to build my own desktops (it's the ultimate nerd puzzle), but if I ever need another laptop, I hope to get another one from them.

EDIT: If you’re interested in seeing how I put my new rig together, I have a very detailed post with lots of pictures here:

#916

I’m from 61

#917

Very Nice PC and setup!

I’m also looking at maybe getting the 2.6Quad core, but the 2.8Quad core is on sale here now  Might get that! Hurry up tax money!!

#918

And I am from 1932!
(And most days I even fell old–in the body anyway!)

It’s all in the mind you know!

Brian

#919

Well bwtr, 1932 eh? And I’d thought that was your grand-dad in the previous pic!

If oldies are outing themselves here, I’m sure to win: Not that I’m competitive, oh no.

Okay, so I’m only from 1941 - but I definitely win because I am a lady too!

How bad is that? Enough to make all the young men flee from the forum!

Got first computer in 1980, but you’ll all be relieved to hear that I couldn’t do anything with it as was and am just a sad wannabe nerd. Though I did make it play some tinny tunes :-))

OKay, all off topic, so I’d better post my rig one day soon… now where did I stash that old Commodore 64 …??

#920

Wow! I feel like a kid now! Thanks!
btw! nice work alfsea!
