The Aeron chairs are definitely high on the recommendation list, but that’s the old setup. The new one is a bit more efficient and makes better use of the space http://www.manticorelabs.com/Homepages/SixScreens/

Though, just wait until I’m done overhauling the other two home offices. They’ll make this one look like a cramped sandbox.

heheheeee…hey janine,U sure You gatherd all Monitors on the house???

BTW,loved that PSP  (confuse between DS or PSP:shrug: )

#463

Go with a PSP.

#464

Keen! Stupid question, what are those two grey machines on the left above the A1000? Is that a stock case from somewhere?

#465

You spotted the A1000! (I believe in saving that relic)
The two little grey twins are Asus T2-AE1’s which are AMD 64-bit bare-bones systems.

Stefan,
as much as I was impressed with your space setup… I was kinda let down when I saw your LCD’s where…BenQ’s

#467

Only the outer two, the other four are Hyundai’s with dual inputs. I picked the Benq’s because they have a similar height characteristic, seeing as how I couldn’t get any additional Hyundai’s (and didn’t want to replace the whole set just because of the border and height).

#468

How much you asking for the cinema display?

Hi joshone,
cool gear you’ve got there…
What’s the two dvcams? a panny agdvx 100 and an Optura?
How does that spaceball-trackball perform?
Is it as usefull as marketed?

#471

Hi Stefan,
what’s in and what is that monster tower you use as a side desk on the right?

#472

It’s a dual 3.4Ghz EMT64 Xeon, 8GB RAM, 14 x 300GB SCSI-U320 10Krpm Cheetah’s as a 3.6TB hot-swap RAID5 setup, in a Chieftec Arena 2000 case with two 800W power supplies.

#473

Jesus…

does that thing get hot and loud at all? apart from hungry…

#474

Not too hot (leveling at 50C/122F on the CPU’s and 43C/109F for the case). Apart from the fans on the gfxcard, chipset, cpus, etc. There are 8 x 92mm fans in the case for the basic cooling and the backplane for the HD’s has 4 additional 80mm fans on the back. But it is loud and the heat being blown out is noticable (but luckily I’ve got AC in all rooms).

#475

Is modding an A/C with pipes that would go into a few pcs case a viable solution for pc cooling, against heat and noise? that way no need for noisy fans and a constant temp is kept…
I’ve never seen it anywhere but could it be relatively cheap instead of building fridge-rooms and having all those long cables going from the fridge to the desktop?

#476

That would be a bad idea because you end up having problems with the condensation that would result of feeding A/C output into a system directly. In the server room that houses two racks (which is the really noisy part of the house that makes the Arena look like a soft purring noise) I have an APC NetworkAir unit installed which has full condensation control and an exhaust system that runs through the wall. However, that’s a 4kW $3000 unit so it’s not a cheap solution to cooling but that’s mostly because of condensation control. Most of the more traditional A/C units are probably more a danger if you were to feed their flow directly into a machine.

#477

You mean that the pc’s interiors would become moist with air dropplets from the A/C and that would jam the machines? But would’nt the heat vaporize the moisture?
I thought A/C produced “dry” air, thats why some people can’t stand them…

#478

That’s why people use humidifiers, etc. so it doesn’t feel too dry, some A/C units have such a module included but the problem is not just the feed from the A/C but temperature differences and the overall condition of the space. Here’s an interesting story about using AC’s when computers start to overheat.

#479

I tried to get everything shown, but did not manage to do it. Left out was an old Casio CZ-101 syntesizer, miniscaled nylon-string guitar, one electric (all my 3 electrics are Westone Pantera-series), some effect-pedals, and Roland Soundcanvas-synthmodule.

thanks, evan.
one is a dvx100a and the other is the 3ccd pv-gs70d (good for webcamming, reference shooting and situations too perilous for the dvx (like a day at 6 flags great adventures).

the spaceball i like it a lot. why?
[ol]
[li]saves my mouse hand from COUNTLESS camera navigational moves [/li][li]plenty of buttons (i have them set for selecting components and object, entering transform manipulation and shift and Alt keys) [/li][li]i use softimageXSI and when you get real close to objects the camera moves real slow (if you are REALLY REALLY close, it may not move at all until you back away from the object). i don’t have that problem with the spaceball - nice. [/li][li]makes 3d’ing even more enjoyable [/li][/ol]
it does take some getting used to. at first i had to kind of force myself to use it (so used to using the keyboard). and while it does work in the viewports of xsi, i wish it worked in other views (object viewer, texture editor). but it’s definately a keeper and worth it to me.
