Ha Ha,

Well the photo was taken a while ago when I first set up the system - if it makes you happy I now have no less than 57 icons, which still dosent come close to filling it. Oh well…

Don’t mind the makeshift pillar over there in the corner

My little corner of the world…

I feel like my last post of my rig was unfair. I had just finished cleaning that day. Here’s what it usuall looks like:

Here’s mine:

My Wacom is off to the side.

Interesting how so many of us here are also musicians.

Interesting, but not very surprising. Creativity == <3

Doesn’t it drive you nuts to share the same computer room with another person? I shared on, for a brief time with my room mate and it made me really irritated :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’d be neat to have a nice keyboard at my computer…but then again I like to sit close to my monitors, as well as indian-style while leaning back, so it might get in the way;)

Not at all, hes my handy programmer

I hate you. I want to kidnap you and take your Q+. I’ve been thinking about shelling out for a Microvave XT, or even a Micro Q. I can’t decide. The more VST softsynths I try out, the more I realize none of them can reproduce the Waldorf sound. Not even Waldorf softsynths could produce that hardware Waldorf sound. I have tried some really advanced softsynths like Virsyn Tera 2, Kubik, z3ta+…etc, and as cool as they are, none can do the Waldorf sound.

I have a question though–Waldorf synths are notorious for their unfinished/unstable OS. Now that they are gone, wouldn’t that mean the OS will forever be unfinished? Also, how is the Waldorf user community? Are there a lot of cool utilities, patches, OS tweaks…etc available for download?

The Q and MicroQ OS’ are rock solid. Theres only 1 slight bug in OS 3.02 for the Q, but its no big deal.

The Q+ OS still leaves much to be desired…half finished features, etc. But it does offer all of the features of the Q and then some. Theres just a lot of untapped potential with the powerful DSP’s inside of it. There were lots of great plans before the company folded (like implementing the XT’s filters in the Q+ for instance).

The XT OS is free of major bugs (except for the unison mode clicking). There is a new XT OS on the way though. Stefan Stenzel, former head of Waldorf R and D, has his own company now: http://www.stadler-electro.de/ (get it? Waldorf and Stadler  ) Stefan is very busy doing freelance work for differant companies. He promises thatXT OS 3.0 is on the way, none the less.

Also, the Virus TI line of synths now has wavetables. Some former Waldorf engineers are actually over at Access right now, and I wouldnt be surprised if Mr. Stenzel was lending a hand as well.

The Waldorf user community is great. Check out the mailing list at www.waldorf.synth.net

Frankfurt Musik Messe (the world’s biggest music trade show) is coming up april 6-9. Waldorf is registered as having a booth, sharing with Steinberg.

I still have bad GAS for an XTk…it will be mine some day!!

Array - I really wish they would try to release some hardcore Waldorf softsynths–not the crap they’ve done in the past, but something impressive like Virsyn Tera 2, Absynth, Albino 2, or z3ta+. I think a high-quality Waldorf softsynth would sell like hotcakes, as most people couldn’t afford the hardware stuff.

How much did you pay for your Q+?

I lust for that lovely orange XTK so badly. That orange is the boldest, most in-your-face “electronic music machine” color ever in the history of synths.

I paid $2700 for the Q+ (brand new), which was basically cost (MSRP was $4500). Got it so cheap because I bought it right as the company was going under. I think it was the last one sold in the USA, it took Guitar Center 4 months to track one down for me.

I saw an XTk for $700 at guitar center last year :frowning: I wish I had the money for it back then. I’m going to have to pay double to get it off ebay now.

Yeah, I’m really hoping that someone picks up the Waldorf IP, and QUICK. That company has over 20 years of synthesis research behind it (Waldorf owns the PPG IP, PPG made the very first digital synths towards the end of the 70’s). It would be sad if all of that hard work went to waste. Technically it all belongs to the German government now, unless there has been an announced deal (i.e. why Waldorf might have a booth at Messe this year). If the XT and Q came out in softsynth form, I would run out and get a 12" powerbook. That would be soooo sweeeeet.

Here are some cool Q and XT demos just in case everyone is wondering what us crazy people are talking about:

I’ll grab a pic of my rig later, but heres the specs:

P3 448MHz
256MB PC100 RAM
1 x 5GB HDD and 1 x 6GB HDD
GeForceFX 5200 with 128MB Video Memory
3GB of Virtual Memory

I think its safe to say that I have the slowest machine here, but I could be wrong. :banghead:

#196

to be honest, I think I’d be happier with an analog piano with pickups;)

#197

NOTHING feels as good as a real piano!
Except maybe a pretty girl :buttrock: .

#198

haha, damn right…

though some of the newer, higher-end electrics have full touch response and have weighted keys, so they’re reallllllly close to a real piano
