Shortcut to load a selection on current layer WITHOUT Ctrl+clicking it?

#1

Hi,

I was wondering about how to select everything on the “current” layer (equivalent of ctrl+clicking it) WITHOUT actually going all the way over to the layer panel and clicking.

I’m not seeing anything exactly like that in the shortcut guide, but I know that guide isn’t exactly comprehensive, either, or I’m not looking in the right place maybe? It seems like such an appropriate shortcut that I can’t imagine there not being a way to do it!

(I’m doing some work involving painting within a crapload of shapes, all of them on different layers. Being able to do this would REALLY help save a lot of time and annoyance!)

Thanks!

Not sure if this is faster

I think you misunderstood my question, sorry if I’m not being very clear.

“Select-> All” only selects the entire canvas, regardless of what is on the layer. I’m talking about something that selects ONLY the pixels on that layer. So if you have a circle drawn on a clear layer, the only the parameter of the circle is selected.

Make an action, and assign the action to a hotkey.

Basically, to make the action, just do the ctrl+click trick while recording a new action (it will say “set selection” on the action and that should be the only parameter in your action).

Jettatore–

I had tried using the action approach awhile back, and could only get it to work with layer that I first used the action with.

Must’ve done something wrong before though, because I just tried it again to be sure and it seems to work with others now! Thank you!

You probably selected a specific layer by name the first time you tried it, and when you went to re-use the action in another image the named layer wasn’t there and the action failed. Glad it’s working.
