Short Scenes: Pygmalion Computer Graphics Project

#341

Hi all,

Mike: I'd be fine with animating this, but my concern is as follows: How would I integrate it into the scenes?

Everyone: Here is my latest WIP. It's not quite where I want it yet, but it's a lot closer. It's a bit beat up, which is my style :), so let me know if it will clash with the taxicab. Also, I think I'm going to change the shape of the number wheels. As you can see, they're a little awkward.

You may find it extremely yellow compared to my last post, but I realized that the body was to be painted a brass color. Though I think it should be a little more dark-goldish. I’m not sure.

P.S. - Lovin that scotsman! :scream::applause::thumbsup:

Greetings!

I’m new to this project and just started modelling on exterior two.
I’ve been modelling for about 1,5 hour and this is what i got so far.
Lots of details on this building, so there will be some modelling hours

Anyways. Interresting project. I’m enjoying working with it

AgentPrometheus: The beat up look is great! The taxicab is beatup also. The color needs to be dark gray or go to the ridiculous and use a brilliant blue. I don’t know which would be better without seeing it. Or you can make a new color suggestion to look at. EDIT: Yeah, I missed the Brass also. That would be a good choice too. What does unpolished brass look like?

The audience does not see the interior of the cab. The taximeter is only seen in shots 30 and 42. (The storyboard frames are numbered.) For 30 the taxicab side view is composited as the background layer and the meter is animated in the foreground. It grows starting from a small disk in the taxi door window until it fills the screen, overshoots then pops back to reasonable (large) size so the audience can read the numbers.

In 42 we again use a matte background and watch the flag drop and a zero cylinder change to one shilling at the same time. I’ll send a picture to your email address today. Your rendered frames in max will not look different than frames rendered in Maya to the compositor.

Welcome to the Project Pivot! Just to remind everyone what he is doing, here is where I first posted his reference photo.

*welcome PIVOT:), love to see that building after finished, good luck to your part:thumbsup:

Worked this over for a few hours, added some bump mapping. Been playing with a few different colors, but I don’t want to go and make a high quality map for each - that would take a lot of time, and im already behind the milestone  - only for the color I end up using. Here are a couple of, ‘color concepts’.

The first (original w/ bump mapping):

The second (greyish-yellow w/ bump):

And the third (a dull blue w/ bump):

I’m completely split up on this, it’s hard to decide :frowning:

I think the top one looks best. Put a few more spots of corrosion on it and I think we will be ok. Unless someone out there has a map of old brass?

I put a fast gif file together to show you the relative sizes of the meter as it moves out of the taxi window
flying meter gif

The animator will position the background taxi to make it seem that your meter is flying out of the window. The Sound crew will add a funny sound effect and then a fast cut back to the face of the taxi and Liza. This is going to work great!

i think that 2nd is better than others

Greetings! Just posting to sat hello for now. I just joined the project and am going to be working on the Henry Higgins model. My goal is to have something in terms of a WIP posted by early next week.

MAronson, I’ll try to get the whole thing done by the 15th but if I can’t I will make sure to at least have something fully animatable by then with the complete model arriving by the 29th.

#350

I have maps for dang near anything.

#351

Back with another update after some struggle. Check the Liza texturing post. Very nice work everyone.

#352

Hey all!

The Liza texturing is lookin great there!

Here’s another update on the meter. I think I’ll open up a WIP thread for it so I can stop clogging this topic with WIPS  In fact, I will do that right now. Updates at the WIP topic, which is linked in my sig. Just in case I’ll out a link in this post as well:

Hey everyone, just a quick post for now to introduce myself. I’ll be the supervising animator, so once people are starting the animation and have any questions etc, feel free to contact me.

I may not be the quickest to respond for the next month but will try and reply to everything within 24 hours. Keep up the good work!

#354

Hey Guys…

Great Progress!

Mike I sent her to your email address!

Here is CellPhoneGirl…

#355

Welcome to the Project Alistair McCello and teabgs!

Two models were posted this week end. CellPhone Boy and CellPhone Girl thanks to Astro-Sanchez and Liseelulu. When the cell phones are posted we will be able to complete shots 3 through 8. (With the two recent backgrounds and the Scotsman we now have nine models posted!)

Hyphen will be working on shots 1-2. I’m still working on my communication skills to make sure everyone knows what we need to do. I need to be able to describe to him how to sync a camera pull out with the announcer’s voice. I’ll time that out and send it to him.

Attention Project members who use Macs. We have had two cases now where Mac users were unable to open rar archives. If you want to download a model you have to tell me so I can prepare a zip archive for you.

bonestructure: Did you get the CD Package? We will have to have a contest and give a prize to anyone who can think up a material that you don’t have a map for!

MJO120881 will only be doing a facial rig on Covent Garden Liza since he is only doing closeups. When he finishs that we will pass on a copy of the model to another rigger to continue the work.

teabgs and I are talking about the storage space we will need for this production. The rendered frames will be about 8 Gig. I’m going to have to buy 8 Flash memory keys! LOL

In any volunteer project there are always drop outs and I have been working hard to find replacements. Alistair McCello is picking up Henry Higgins so that leave me with just two models out of 23 that we need to find a modeler for. It sometimes takes a while for people to discover us. If you have friends that you know are fast modelers, now would be a good time to contact them. I need to find modelers for the Limousine and the TaxiCab. I actually have two other things to model but I am prepared to cut them if we don’t find enough modelers. The vehicles, however are important characters.

I posted some sample dialog for Scene 2 with Freddy, the taxicab and Covent Garden Liza. Liza’s voice will be replaced with the voice of the actress selected to play Eliza. Auditions are Jan 10, 2006. Here is the link: Scene 2 Dialog

#356

Liza’s final textures are posted…moving on to rigging now. Does anyone happen to know a good way to rig buttons to a shirt in Maya?

#357

“bonestructure: Did you get the CD Package? We will have to have a contest and give a prize to anyone who can think up a material that you don’t have a map for!”

Yes I did. Mailing it off this morning.

If there’s something I don’t have a texture finished for, it’s likely I have it in my textures in progress file waiting to be finished lol

#358

i’m on mac too for .RAR macPAR is a good http://www.xs4all.nl/~gp/MacPAR_deLuxe/

#359

Astro: Thanks for the link to macPAR, it works like a charm!

Hello Mike, fine?

I’m very pleased to be invited to join your collaborative project,
but at the same time I’m a little afraid not to be part of it.

After working 17 years at JWThompson I was all by myself(and GOD) working at home.
Sometimes I spent a whole month without any freelance job,
and suddenly I’m in front of 4 jobs to do in 2 weeks. Today I have no freelance
but I don’t know if someone will call me later or tomorrow.
I wouldn’t like to disappoint you. So I decline your kindly invitation,
hopping you have a great success in your project.

Regards,
Jomar Machado
