Short Film : Holiday Shear. Blender project

#28

Oh no this short is far from over… it’s only just begun. As for the blog, that is strange because I have no problems, but I will look into it and email the host and see if there have been problems. Yes I have more objects in the hopper (hehe). If I am not replying as much this week - I had mass tests to prepare for so it’s been kinda hectic. This weekend I am pretty much free, and I will have a TON of new stuff up and what not.

Again I’ll check up on my sites here and see whats up, if anything I’ll get a PayPall account and get a real domain and host - planning on doing that soon anyway.

k, thanks for the update, the blog is fine now. how did you get that image from google earth into blender? im trying to do a similar thing but it’s not working. when i insert it by clicking view > background image > and inserting the pic, it doesnt show up…
help?

#30

I don’t think it was Google Earth actually, it was TerraServer.

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/

Yes I know it’s the big evil MS…but it worked. The only problem though is that there is very few areas to view compared to GoogleEarth, so it’s a trade off I guess.

Well this week I have been working on the car in this short, finally got some good results. I have never modeled a car before so this is a learning experience for me. I grabbed a screenshot for you all to see. Mind you this a total WIP, but after a few failed attempts at first this seems to be working pretty well.

#32

Sorry for lack of updates, been busy getting things done. I am going to be hosting some of my images through image shack till I get an actual website, since I only have a 2 gig download limit on the current site.

Here is another environment render (Blender) of T-Bone’s hood. Not much other than road modeling, but it’s been pretty decently paced.

Here is a better version of the car I am modeling, though it too has issues in the rear. Never modeled a car before so it’s been a SLOW process to get right, mostly the areas where doors and windows will be located.

Just a reminder - this short is still in need of some help. So if you guys are still interested, let me know.

Ted, I’m not so good at moddeling, better at rendering, but will see if I can model something. I’ve read on your blog, that you have problems with web design. If You have graphics and some drawings, I’ll could help with writing a css style sheet, but If you want to theme your blog at blogger, I’ll need some time to learn how to change blogger style.

#34

hey,
sorry for not being active lately, ive been buried in work.
what other models are left, i cant find the website with the stuff left…?
i made a car once (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/31443842/?qo=6&q=by%3Amrchairman08&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps) but i dont know if u want to is for this movie

#35

Hey it’s cool dude, last week I couldn’t do much between school and the stomach flu . I looked at the car, while it does look cool for what it is, it won’t fit into the look of the film. Well on second thought I might be able to toss it in for background, just won’t be the main characters car. I do have several reference photos for this car, since blueprints are non-existant. If you feel like tackling the car that would be great, as I have been limping through it.

Here is the list.

Is it dead?

#37

i dont think so. are u modeling something?

#38

No it’s not dead, I just started a new job, and school is taking up my time too, so for the past week I haven’t had much time to do much. Sorry. It’s not dead, far from it. BUT, within 5 weeks or so I will be done with my school term for several weeks so I will have much more time to start sharing things and getting the beginning parts of this project done. Such as the final website, buying webspace and domain, and getting some sort of file sharing process going. I guess I started this project a bit early before thinking about how much time I would have. I do not plan on quitting this project, I invested many years to get this far.

#39

well i havent been here from the brginning so i just want to know, have u posted a story or a summary of what will happen? i kind of want to read it.

#40

I will upload it tonight, the full story or a synopsis of some sort, after I get home from school.

#41

sooo… is it up?
link?

#42

:banghead: - Damn host… my host was acting up for a couple of days, so I couldn’t log in even.

But today when I got home the host was working great. So I uploaded it. Mind you the story needs a bit of work at the end, I just haven’t gotten it perfect yet.

story sounds OK
any progress?

#44

Very sorry for long delay, it has been a crazy month as I have finals at school. This upcoming Tuesday is my last final so after that I am devoting a lot more time to this for the next couple of months. School starts again in a month, but considering that it would be the beginning of the term there isn’t much of a huge demand from it. Also half the classes are computer classes and I could sleep through those and pass 100%…

Anyway since I have been absent from this does not mean I have not been working on stuff, mostly contacting my sister to get real reference images of the areas to model, drawing more character sheets, still drawing the storyboards when I can and also getting some idea of some voices for the whole thing. Not to mention doing some heavy R+D work over the whole Blender - Renderman issue.

So again this project is still alive, as much as it can be. Once I get some kind of stable foundation then I think things will fall into place.

The script construction could use alot of work. If you would like, I could get on reconstructing that to a more professional look. (i.e., when you put “…” you can only have three “.”, when you cut to an int. or ext. you have to put the title of each int. and ext., etc)

#46

Well it has been a very long time since I posted anything here. I believe the “collab” part is dead, maybe. I spent the last 3 months going over my Blender to Renderman pipeline, making sure that what I want to do will work - to make a short film using Blender and a Renderman compliant renderer. Well it works, even animation given a bit of restructuring of every single final render RIB file, I am working on the first opening shot as I type this using a very custom method.

However most of the past few months have been nothing but R+D over this, and have no time at all to “collaborate” with those who wished to do so, by which I apologize. So now after almost a year in “pre production” I am finally able to move on to the important elements of the short - the modeling.

If anyone is willing to contribute to this it would be really nice, I know that MANY Blender projects have fallen through, but this was not started as a “Blender” project at all, and in fact traces it roots to Lightwave 7.0, with no intentions of having a community based short in mind at all. But that is not to say that this is looking down on it, in fact the whole reason I decided to use Blender as the animation tool was because it is that powerfulll.

Anywho again if anyone with some decent Blender skills who would want to help out that would be cool, otherwise you can just check out my Holiday Shear blog on my progress on this short.
