Short Film : Holiday Shear. Blender project

#20

OK! Well I finally got the first list done. I got a free web server for now, at least till a better option comes around - or untill I buy a domain and space. The space right now is about 2GB, with a 2GB bandwidth so for now only images will be up. Check it out, and there are many ??? in the Who column, only because I have yet to assign models. I will be doing that soon, unless you want do it - just let me know.

Over the next week this list will have more additions to it, so by no means is this complete.

okay real nice. for the bginning sign me up for a small commitment, ill take on a bigger one once im done with this. how about the fire hydrant?

#22

Yay, nice reference material

I just have to finish my project I´m doing at the moment, then my help will be completely yours

#23

heres my fire hydrant
critiques please?

i will get started on the lamp post then and edit my hydrant if any suggestions

#24

I like it! I am impressed :D. Hell that works for me. Like I said, not going to have much screen time, but there must be many of them. (duplicated of course…)

Oh and I just remembered something. Because this will be done with Renderman, try to model as much as possible with quad polygons, they actually are more efficiant than triangles, at least for Renderman. It has to do with the way it dices up the polygons before shading and triangles actually increase the workload.

here is my lamp post. the light is kind of wierd so i could really use some tips

ill edit my post and say what im starting for tomorrow

#26

I cannot believe I didn’t post this before. In order to shade objects that seem to have different materials for them, they must be seperate. So for instance this lamp post, while very good, should be 4 seperate objects (at least from what I have seen). The base, the post itself, the light and the top thing on the light. The reason is because it’s almost impossible to write a shader that have 4 different material properties, well it’s not for a pro shader writer to but I am not that experienced enough to do that. I imagine it could be texture mapped, but the light itself would pose a problem since this short takes place at night. So the light would have to have some shader that simulates that it’s lit up. Just keep this in mind.

As for the model it does look good, I don’t think the light looks too weird. I imagine it could have some SubD smoothing, but if it messes up the shape too much such as the top and bottom seams don’t worry about it. For something like this one you have made I can see it being placed in front of buildings or something.

However I do need at least another light post like the ones in this image below. Those are going to have a lot of screen time.

And finally I am going to upload an updated list tonight, with more reference images, as well as a more complete table too so we all can see what needs to get done first, if it’s done already and so on. I think this would be more helpfull. Sorry if my management skills aren’t quite up (lol), this is new for me so I am learning as I go.

OK the new list is up - I am going through images and those should follow within the next few hours. http://www.freewebtown.com/holidayshear/pre_production_list.html

Till then,
Ted

hey it looks like your blog is down for one reason or another. is this project done or are you just redoing the site?
any more obects or models to post?
i guess ill do the other lamp also…

#28

Oh no this short is far from over… it’s only just begun. As for the blog, that is strange because I have no problems, but I will look into it and email the host and see if there have been problems. Yes I have more objects in the hopper (hehe). If I am not replying as much this week - I had mass tests to prepare for so it’s been kinda hectic. This weekend I am pretty much free, and I will have a TON of new stuff up and what not.

Again I’ll check up on my sites here and see whats up, if anything I’ll get a PayPall account and get a real domain and host - planning on doing that soon anyway.

#29

k, thanks for the update, the blog is fine now. how did you get that image from google earth into blender? im trying to do a similar thing but it’s not working. when i insert it by clicking view > background image > and inserting the pic, it doesnt show up…
help?

#30

I don’t think it was Google Earth actually, it was TerraServer.

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/

Yes I know it’s the big evil MS…but it worked. The only problem though is that there is very few areas to view compared to GoogleEarth, so it’s a trade off I guess.

Well this week I have been working on the car in this short, finally got some good results. I have never modeled a car before so this is a learning experience for me. I grabbed a screenshot for you all to see. Mind you this a total WIP, but after a few failed attempts at first this seems to be working pretty well.

#32

Sorry for lack of updates, been busy getting things done. I am going to be hosting some of my images through image shack till I get an actual website, since I only have a 2 gig download limit on the current site.

Here is another environment render (Blender) of T-Bone’s hood. Not much other than road modeling, but it’s been pretty decently paced.

Here is a better version of the car I am modeling, though it too has issues in the rear. Never modeled a car before so it’s been a SLOW process to get right, mostly the areas where doors and windows will be located.

Just a reminder - this short is still in need of some help. So if you guys are still interested, let me know.

#33

Ted, I’m not so good at moddeling, better at rendering, but will see if I can model something. I’ve read on your blog, that you have problems with web design. If You have graphics and some drawings, I’ll could help with writing a css style sheet, but If you want to theme your blog at blogger, I’ll need some time to learn how to change blogger style.

#34

hey,
sorry for not being active lately, ive been buried in work.
what other models are left, i cant find the website with the stuff left…?
i made a car once (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/31443842/?qo=6&q=by%3Amrchairman08&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps) but i dont know if u want to is for this movie

#35

Hey it’s cool dude, last week I couldn’t do much between school and the stomach flu . I looked at the car, while it does look cool for what it is, it won’t fit into the look of the film. Well on second thought I might be able to toss it in for background, just won’t be the main characters car. I do have several reference photos for this car, since blueprints are non-existant. If you feel like tackling the car that would be great, as I have been limping through it.

Here is the list.

#36

Is it dead?

#37

i dont think so. are u modeling something?

#38

No it’s not dead, I just started a new job, and school is taking up my time too, so for the past week I haven’t had much time to do much. Sorry. It’s not dead, far from it. BUT, within 5 weeks or so I will be done with my school term for several weeks so I will have much more time to start sharing things and getting the beginning parts of this project done. Such as the final website, buying webspace and domain, and getting some sort of file sharing process going. I guess I started this project a bit early before thinking about how much time I would have. I do not plan on quitting this project, I invested many years to get this far.

#39

well i havent been here from the brginning so i just want to know, have u posted a story or a summary of what will happen? i kind of want to read it.
