Short Film Collaboration: Discussion and Concept development

Do you mean an app that can stream a training session while the trainer does the tutorial, as well as be recorded for distribution later? That would be awesome!

Adobe’s Breeze looks pretty sweet, but I’m sure it’s probably costly. Haven’t heard of any free solutions.

Well, I dont know of a open source netmeeting aplication to share the training session, but as for Desktop recording software. My free Fav is CAM studio.

Outputs to Flash via a built in converter or your choice of compression Codecs.

Hilarious… I can see lots of opportunity for comdic reactions with this character… can just see the lips flapping in the wind…lol… very cool!.. thanks for that!.. Inspirational…

Will cross post the pic in the “Elephant Dreams” thread… hope that is ok… just so other will notice…

Couldn’t resist cross posting this… very funny sketch… Original post in the new Collaboration Idea: Concept Sketches thread:

i have no problems at all with this …
just take the sketches change them warp them copy paste them…whatever…
here is another one i did today trying to figure out open canvas …
i exported an .wpe eventg file i cannot seem to control the pressure but this may be the fault of my tablet pc that uses an old wacom presure sensitive device…
anyway here it is

Just back from vacation. Neat idea. Please allow me to comment that I’ve found most of the criticism here very constructive. Considering how many such collaborative films falter I think its also valuable to take them into account. That said, my input:

http://www.celtx.com/
This software (free) has a built-in script writing section with taggable data files, surrounded by rudimentary management features. No realtime co-authoring, but who needs that?

A question: is everything decided by poll or does someone have duengeonMaster rights? I’d recommend clarifying this early on.

#147

i would take that website with a grain of salt. sounds like a spammer got bitch slapped and started crying. I never had problems with them.

#148

https://www.b-one.net generally has quite cheap hosting, and no limit on the bandwith.

#149

well make sure their admin interface is using something good. cheap hosting with unlimited bandwidth is usually bullshit too. unlimited bandwidth maybe, but always up and fast bandwidth…probably not. anyway not sure who will be maintaining the website so cpanel preference might not be important anyway.

#152

holy S%#T server lag.

#153

So Stooch…you have\are using lunarpages without issue?.. and uptime is good?.. Need to nail this down soon… so your help would be appreciated.

From their own web-site:
"In spite of the low price, quality has never been compromised. All servers are of the best Hewlett-Packard quality with redundant power supplies, mirrored SCSI disks with daily external tape-backup.

The systems are placed in a private server room at Interxion in Denmark. The server room has redundant power circuits, battery backup, diesel generators and a Vesda (Very early Smoke Detection Alarm) smoke alarm system.

Our backbone is fibre-based with redundant infrastructure. The total bandwidth is at present 2 x 1 Gigabit multi-homed attached and connected to 3 international carriers, Global Crossing, Deutsche Telecom and Level3, in addition to Danish Internet eXchange.

Servers, server rooms and the bandwidth are monitored around the clock, 365 days a year."
And this:
“B-one’s data centre is located at Interxion, which offers world-class server room facilities and guarantees 99.999% uptime. See www.interxion.com for further information.”

Saying that, I’ve experienced at least one day (or at least a few hours) of downtime with them in the past at one point or another. We’ve used them for about 2 1/2 years.

#155

K… so this is isp you use for your site?.. and you have lots of downloading going on… correct?

I don’t want to get into a situation where… if this thing takes off big time… we look like idiots cause our isp can’t handle the bandwidth…

#156

This is the one we use yes. The only time it was down that I can remember was when the entirety of b-one.net was down one time last year. We’ve certainly never pushed the server to the limit and the transfer rate is extremely fast. Right now as a test I’m downloading one of our animations (256 mb) at 466 kb/s which I believe is the limit of my connection rather than theirs. What’s a realistic amount of people downloading at the same time x 2? Perhaps we could test drive it by attempting to crash our server. I sincerely don’t believe it will be a problem and bang for buck, which is always good on $0 budget films, I think it’s a good service.

Edit:
Lunarpages:
400 Gigabytes Data Transfer
5gb storage
$6.95/mnth

B-one.net
Unlimited bandwith
2 gb storage
$ 6.64/mnth

Will we use more than 400 gb/month? Will we need more than 2 gb space? Those are the questions we’ll need an answer to.

#157

Thanks for the info… will take a look!.

#158

Chiming in… albiet late. This look like it could be fun.

#159

Good deal… glad your interested… With your experience, I can see you helping with lots of questions related to Messiah… Thanks for chiming in!

So which is it LA or Atlanta…or do you split your time?

Special thanks to my fellow Art Center alumni Steve Chung for lending me the background pattern. I’m finding it almost very helpful to have some sort of background in there when i start any sort of standalone character. Started with a blocked out shape (Thanks to numerous open canvas sessions with Taron) and then just gunned a quick concept sketch. Roughly 30 mins from start to finish.

I doubt you guys want to keep it this simple. I figure this way if we keep our designs simple from the start we might actually accomplish something. Feel free to modify this drawing.

Sorry if I didn’t really finish it to all the detailing work you might want me to do. I just didn’t have time while I am on another project for work.
