I’ve finished the generic van ‘4’ and it has been uploaded to the FTP area.
Here’s what it looks like…

I’m having to take a couple of days break to get some other charity work done so I’ll be working on other models sometime next week.

OK heres a really quick train and dropship previz I rendered this evening. Please note that the dropship and the city are just lowres proxy objects. The ground plane will be the ocean. The camera is just a static positioned camera set to follow the lead engine on the train. In fact nothing in this shot is final its all just a test setup as different parts are being worked out. I rearranged the scene for easier work later and messed a couple of things up so I’m just going to post what I rendered earlier and one clip from it so I can jump back in and fix a couple of things tonight. I’ll fill you guys in with the actual plan and better details in the morning.

and the avi (DIVX format)
Aurora- HUGE COOL ! ![]()
This ones for you!>QT 3meg
WARNING The clip has NO processing other than a bit of contrast! Regarding the more obvious flaws- keep in mind I REALLY RUSHED to get this out to you all before I disappear for a few days-
I already sent you and Email but that shot just totally made my day already!!! I’m so psyched to finish up what I’m working on to get it to you to get those freaking awesome textures on them!
Team - the basic plan is that these two viz’s are 2 different shots so we have two scenes we are currently working on. My plans are to fix up the real camera and cleanup a bunch of the stuff in the train scene I showed and get it all off to Softdistortion by Monday. Then he can do his BIG kung fu for the scene. Once we have all the renders done we’ll comp it apply alittle post magic and get the results out ASAP.
I’m also going to write a quick tut on the train setup not so much that the train animation is anything special but the way we will be handeling the vibrations might be new and useful info to alot of people. I’m also going to finish the hi-res building. But these things are going to be after I finish my work for this animation.
colkai - I’m loving that van!!!
pulling a long one on this tonight, sort out the arms and legs, and mission 2 is going again for you guys:thumbsup:
Like them?!? Thats kinda like saying I like to breathe!! And if I only like the arms, the hands I’m in total love with so I have nothing to compare that too. I know SD said that you did not need to rig this guy becuase we only plan on using him in a still at this point in time. But damn hes just begging to be rigged and animated (spoken as brain gears break through all the rust and start turning again)!!!
thanks Aurora… finished(ish)
going to rig him tomorrow, and maybe knock out an animation too, see how busy i am
Greetings,
i am back after having been dealing with all the burocracy and stuff that the death of a relative entails.
It feels good to see everyone so enlightened and all the great work being produced here.
Colkai - great cars you’re producing. Thick traffic etc. is going to give life to this city
Jayreef - evilish, menacing robot you got there - funtastic work so far!
Tessalated and Softdistortion are producing very interesting animations already - it all looks great so far and will look even better - that i am sure of
Aurora - Thanks for these great tutorials you are producing - its much apreciated. (On a sidenote - might it be possible to make the next one a little less application specific? If one does not have Lightwave i mean)
Well is there still anything that needs to be modeled? If not - how could i be of assistance?
Maybe ill start learning skinning or rigging soon…
:wavey:
jayreef - That beats my expectations of what I expected your finished piece to look like and it was high to begin with. Hope you will have as much fun rigging and animating him as I will watching him. Just remember that currently SD has no plans for an animation using him. But that does not mean that first it won’t change in the future. Two that it will make setting the perfect poses easier. Three I truely beileive in having fun in the process!

mmhnemo - I pretty much have the next two tuts finished I just need to put them all together and proof it. Which I will after next Monday. Sorry to say they are both, especially the second one, very LW centric. After those I don’t see anything wrong with trying to write something app non-specfic. I’m just not sure how to do it. While I also have and use Maya, and have in the ancient past used 3DS Max and am hoping to get a copy of C4D soon. I have no idea how to write something app non-specific. Especially something like my second upcoming tut. I guess I could write something ala 3D-Worldish but I’m not sure if that would be better then writting a tut specific for each app. Any suggestions are welcome. I’m fully open to do something that helps everyone. One suggestion I have would be to take the concepts and write a simular tut based on a different app. We could then make sure that we post the app used in the name of the thread. Something like ‘Building Buildings - LW7.5’. In fact I’ll go into the forum and change the title right now.
Aurora I realise its only for a single frame shot, just want something to do this weekend whilst my wifes away:thumbsup:
Hey Jayreef back to one of my most important life-moto, ‘Have fun in the process!!!’ The second one is make sure I see it when your done. I’m really excited.:bounce:
i imagine a deforming floor, that bends and send shock waves when he lands…
just a thought, but you see where i am going:bounce:

got the basic parameters sorted out, and will clean and smooth it up tonight, make it a bit more realistic ect…

Hey jayreef, looks like you have a great start there! So is rigging and IK setup in C4D, that is what your using right or is it 3DS Max, easy?
I’ve just gotten through redoing the basic layout of the train scene so it was all to scale including doing a new track, columns, and motion path. Once I finished that I calculated the total length of the track to be 61.2km in length. This allows the original track plan SD had but lets the city be 10 miles from the point where the dropship meets the train. The way I have the train setup the total length of the sequence is proportional to the length of the track and the speed the train is supposed to run at. But when I calc it for a real world speed of the train everything moves so fast everything gets all kludgy. So now I’m trying to calc a speed that would appear realistic for a high speed train but still work for the animation. Off to play some more. Wanna trade jayreef?:hmm:
lolol… sure if yu want…but is it in C4D…
lol…
as a bit of stress relief, not the night for tuning animation, its valentines…, so i knocked this up for a laugh

I decided to take a break from cars, so I’ve uploaded this to the FTP area Softdistortion allocated me.
The building is in LWO format and the ZIP archive contains the scene and maps.

I’ll get back to cars in the coming week - some other things to attend to at home yet.
