Shatter it! by thinkinetic

#16

Hi cannot manage to make an “impact based” fracture with rayfire, My set is very simple, a ground, a box above and a ball falling form the top by gravity. I want the box to break by impact with the ball without having to prefracture it. Is your tool able to do this?

In case yes, as your demo doesnt include the shatter tool, a video showing how to do the effect in the viewport would be appreciated.

#17

Rayfire can, you set the fracture type to impact/bomb. Not sure why you arent asking that in the rayfire thread.

#18

I have post this issue in the rayfire thread just above,

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=183&t=820647

When I use the impact/bomb options rayfire prefractured the box anyway, this is not what Im looking for.

I suppose you have already seen this video,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjN2iEzlk6M

it is very similar to your set, with pulldownit you have to prefracture before computing, but this is not really an issue, the point is by using pdi you are going to get a fast, realistic computation of fracture, as you can see in the video if you need more resolution of fragments in some region, just refine it.

Create new geometry is a high cost process no matter if you do it before computing or during simulation, and probably you prefer to have the heavy process done before computing to get a much faster computation and be able to tweak dynamics parameters in an interactive way to adjust your final animation, dont you?

does anybody know how much this thing costs? i didn’t see a price mentioned on their website so that is usually a bad sign!

#21

to dynamic boy:

I have tried your tool and I like it already in many aspects, specially the fast stable dynamics with non convex objects or aniamted meshes.

I suggest you to include a limited version of your shatter in the demo, It is not a good idea to hide the most important feature from testing.

#22

All of this still changes nothing.

You still cannot do a fracture based on impact. Its not realistic.

The fact that you can fracture an object using a Voronoi pattern pre simulation isn’t impressive. You can get free scripts from script spot that does this exactly the same.

to TheWraith:

Pulldownit is a dynamics and fracture plugin, for both max 32 and 64 bits, the free version is just “for free” so no price, for licencing the pro version you have to contact thinkinetic.

to sekelela:

The stable and fast dynamics for non-convex objects, is consecuence of our mathematically probed consevation of energy in collision and contact. You can check the quality of our shatter using shatter it ONLINE for free in our forum.

to JonathanFreisler:

I think the issue of “impact based” fracture has been enough discussed in this trhead, as this concept involves quite different abilities, I just want to clarify a couple of more specific and clear questions:

Is pulldownit able to keep objects in solid state until being hitting? absolutly YES.

Are the fragments generated able to continue fracturing when hitting the ground? absolutly YES.

But besides words, the best way to determine if pulldownit match your needs is just traying the free version.

I’m not sure this is what you’re looking for but you might want to check out the DMM plugin for 3dsmax (beta version). http://www.pixelux.com

This is a simple test showing the abilitity of shatter it! to prefracture an object with holes and simulate with pulldownit solver, It is simple but not easy, a good test to try with other shatter tools as well.

I have just discover this plug, very good tool. Im surprised by its speed and pretty stable, obviusly it is not PhysX, Im tired of unexpected objects explosions with it, It reminds me bullet physics, It has been used in 2012 for almost all the rigid bodies effects.

anybody knows if pulldownit has bullet physics inside?

#27

Hi Lovedebri,

Pulldownit has its own original dynamics solver, it is faster than bullet computing, and includes fracture capabilities not present in any other, you can check the diffrences between pdi and bullet in Maya, there exist a bullet plugin for this platform aswell.

Here a clip by onemoreproduction making lots of terrain cracking in the style of 2012, all dynamics effects has been done with pulldownit plugin

Im have been using your tool this holydays, here my test:

http://www.vimeo.com/8522388

It is done in the same way I have seen some bullet demos and I have to say Im very glad with the resukt and the time of computation, less than 5 min in my core 2 machine, but I have had some problems in MAX 2009, with other test using non-convex fragments done with another shatter tool, the sim was good but I was unable to reload the scene with pdi info after done, is this issue fixed in the pro version?, could you fix it in the free?

#29

Great test lovedebri,

We have already fixed the issue you mention in the pro version, it willbe fixed aswell in the next update of the free version.

#30

I used the free copy some, and it has some cool features, but it crashed/froze max up a lot for me, and I couldn’t open my files, as they’d freeze or crash max.

#31

I think this issue is alredy fixed in pro version, please send me any of your files which fails in a private message and I will check it, Im glad to send you a fix for this.

By the way pulldownit pro has been updated with support for space warps in Max, here a demo video showing this new feature,

#32

i was having a look to the webpage of the pull down it, and i played with the standard version and seemed quite good, the solver was fast and fairly accurate! but i couldn’t see the price for the “pro” version, how much is it?

cheers

#33

thanks for the good comments, if you like free version you will be amazed by the power and features of pulldownit pro, you have to contact thinkinetic to know about licencing.

#34

i kept trying the standar version of pullDownIt and even tho the solver seems really good, the software crashed mas A LOT, just with simple thinks like adding objects to the list, or even just selection objects while on the utility menu open would crash, with fairly simple scenes…when it worked it was good thought…i wonder if there´s a demo version of the pro release that we could try? like a 30 days free trial or something?

#35

Hi Alex,

I work at thinkinetic as programmer and I think it is possible to send you an eval version of pulldownit pro, but you have to contact our marketing guys, I think there is a contact form somewhere in the pulldownit site.
