shatter help

#301

:frowning: If I knew how to mod it i totally would, but alas that’s not gonna happen. LoL. Oh well, back to PhysX for me.

#302

I’d be impressed if Bullet was properly ported to OS X. The 2008 plug-in was flakey and very alpha. My friend who’s no stranger to XCode compiled the Bullet plug-in for Maya 2009 OS X but it didn’t work. I think that the nParticles and newish dynamics stuff likely means it’s not a straightforward recompile.

#303

Not sure if this helps but the BonusTools come with the measure.mll which when loaded will add a couple new measure types to the Create->Measure Tools menu. The one that might be of help is ā€œvolumeā€ which can be queried in mel using ā€œmeasure -v -ver pCube1ā€; I have no idea what other useful flags it may have.

Cheers,
Pete

#304

I would really like to get his xcode project file if that’s possible. Getting the linking sorted is driving me nuts.
Dave.

#305

Great, sounds good, I hadn’t noticed. measure -v; does appear to do the trick. I don’t see a doc either, but it appears the params are: -separate (-sep) : one value per object, if multiple, otherwise total; -verbose (-ver); -surface (-s) : …area, similar to polyEvaluate -a; -volume (-v).

Thanks for pointing that out!

#306

Hi all, I’ve compiled the bullet plug for osx maya 2009.

have a look at my post here:
bulletphysics.com/Bullet/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3856&p=14417#p14417

there may be issues, I’ve not tried it yet myself, but if your on a mac with maya 2009, this is a later version of the code than the previous binaries. Make sure you report your findings over at the bullet forums.

Dave.

#307

wow - thanks. Although, I ran the test scenes and I think there are some problems. The field ones seem to work (although much slower than I’m accustomed to with the Bullet demos my buddy Shamyl compiled here - original thread). The peanut box and others that involve collisions don’t work - there are no rigid body interactions so the peanuts and spheres just sail through the objects. here’s the error output from the peanut box:

// Error: line 1: Plug-in, "dynamica.bundle", was not found on MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH. //
// Error: file: /Volumes/MYBACK/DOWNLOADS_MB/Dynamica276rc5ForMaya2009OSX/scenes/peanutBox.ma line 65: The dRigidBody 'dRigidBodyShape1' has no '.ac' attribute. //
// Error: file: /Volumes/MYBACK/DOWNLOADS_MB/Dynamica276rc5ForMaya2009OSX/scenes/peanutBox.ma line 65: No object matches name: .ac //
// Error: file: /Volumes/MYBACK/DOWNLOADS_MB/Dynamica276rc5ForMaya2009OSX/scenes/peanutBox.ma line 539: The dRigidBody 'dRigidBodyShape2' has no '.ac' attribute. //
// Error: file: /Volumes/MYBACK/DOWNLOADS_MB/Dynamica276rc5ForMaya2009OSX/scenes/peanutBox.ma line 539: No object matches name: .ac //
// File read in 0 seconds.
// Warning: This file is from an older version of Maya. If saved, it will not be readable by previous versions. //
// Error: Error reading file. //
// Error: Error reading file. //

The peanut funnel doesn’t show any peanuts - just a falling funnel. The 2008 plug-in wasn’t stable but I remember it did get the RB collisions to work.

#308

hmm, well first thing I notice is the plug is not called dynamica.bundle when I compiled it. You could try changing the name, see if that helps. As for the attribute names, that demands a closer look. Have a go at making a scene from scratch…

Dave.

#309

Hey Sphere, if your watching, I wonder if you could share one of your scenes using the bullet plug? The concrete wall would be great, I’d just like to check parity with the mac version. Also did you compile from source, or use one of the provided binaries? I used 2.75rc6 for this one.

Cheers
Dave.

#310

ya, that doesn’t work either. I create a sphere active RB and then try and attach a passive rigid body to a mesh cube and when I animate, I get two spheres splitting from the same spot. Any RBs I try and create just make spheres

Should I post here or on the Bullet forum? I registered.

#311

changing the plug-in name, relaunching Maya and reloading didn’t help. But like I said, the 2008 plug-in didn’t completely work so the problem is likely deeper than just a good recompile.

#312

probably best to keep this over at the physics forum, the experts are there, and there may be contributions from other people unaware of this thread hopefully.

#313

k - will do that.

#314

Yeah, ok, actually I’ll write some Dynamica utility scripts tonight and a quick blurb on how to use them and with the Voronoi shatter… Hold on, I’ll post back tonight once I’m done and uploaded… (hopefully I don’t stumble on a tiny bit of MEL :))

I compiled the source, rev. 1706, I think, but it should be pretty much identical to what’s in the 2.75rc6 package, especially when it comes to Dynamica (Bullet for Maya Plugin).

#315

Thanks Sphere.

Mac users, I’ve recompiled the plugin, please have a look here:

http://www.bulletphysics.com/Bullet/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3856&p=14419#p14419

I’m determined to get this going, so please try it. Post your experiences on the bullet forum.

I hope this one flies OK as I have to go away for a few days… be great to see a mac animation or two:)

Dave.

#316

Hey davegreenwood. I 'm on an old PPC running Maya 2008. Is there a compatible version for my specs?

#317

I’m not sure if the 2008 binary is universal… try it out:

http://code.google.com/p/bullet/downloads/list

Actually, it says it’s Intel…

#318

Ok, I’ve put something up on the Bullet Physics web site, at the end of this thread: RBD Tools for Dynamica (Bullet for Maya) = utils, bake, etc.

#319

Thanks Sphere, trying them out now…

Dave

thank you all
how do i find first version of destructor? , in latest version it uses nparticles rather than normal particles. i really need first one.

thank you guys again ,
