Hey guys!

Has anyone tried the DMM Plug-in for Maya?
DMM (Digital Molecular Matter) is a technology to simulate material physics based on finite elements. It also works in real-time (used in the game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed). More info on our website.
You can download a free 30 day trial here: http://www.pixeluxshop.ch/

And if anyone tests it all feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks!

Looks cool but no Linux plugin. :argh:

#187

Holy smokes, that looks freaking amazing. That basically seems like the holy grail to me!

Anyone tried the demo yet? My Maya PC is down right now. Plus it’s at home, while I’m at the office, with dreams of virtual destruction in Maya.

#188

We had it at LucasArts. I do distinctly remember that those who used it had a lot of migraines  … However it did get the job done with pretty nice results.

#189

Oooohhhhh! I heard of this a long time ago, but their site was down. TRYING THE DEMO NOW!!! :buttrock:

#190

Yep… the product wasn’t finished at the time though… It’s been polished since… (quite a lot of work on the tools…) so hopefully more user friendly!

#191

Atrus, please come back soon and tell me about the interface. I’m dying to know. I have an animated short planned and this seems like a perfect solution to what I want to do.

The animated examples looked pretty cool, although I have no idea how simple it is to set up until I get my PC with Maya running again.

I’m pretty excited at this plugin- the different materials, like wood vs. concrete look AMAZING. My jaw dropped when I tried out the force unleashed and saw it running in game. It added a new level of believability to the environments.

Having it as an animation/destruction tool in Maya would make my day- and more than justify the price (for me). :bounce:

#192

So this is only for 32bit machines. Can we access the 64bit beta version as a trial?

#193

Nope, you get the 64 bit version in the trial as well. The installer should detect what version of maya you have and install the corresponding version of the plug-in.

#194

Hmmm… then does it require Unlimited? I am getting the error "neither Maya 8.5, 2008 or 2009 was found? I have 2008 and 2009 on this machine x64.

#195

Do you mean Windows 64 and not Vista 64-bit? The plug-in page lists Xp and Vista only.

#196

That would do it. Now the real question becomes … Is it time to finally jump into Vista?

Thanks!

#197

Hmmm that’s weird. You can go and post your problem on the Pixelux forum. There might be an issue with the last version. Sorry about that!

#198

OH . . . .My . . . . God . . . . yeah so i dont see me developing my shatter script further anytime soon. Hahaha. Soooo nice. Im buying it right now. And at 400 bucks a seat, thats super cheap.

#199

That’s what I like to hear! Whooop! :buttrock:

They need to promote this plugin more. If I hadn’t decided to lurk on this thread, I wouldn’t have ever seen this plugin!
:applause:

Just to point out a few key features which I like:

Slider to control how your objects behave, in terms of softness to rigid. You can have semi rigid rigid bodies!

Splinter maps! Use the pre made ones or make your own with a 2d bitmap. Basically draw how you want it to shatter.

Motion blur-able! You need to set an option under your mesh to not hide interior shards and its good to go in mental ray.

Passive “effect cubes”. Say you have a long board and you only want half of it to be passive, the other half to flop around and shatter. No problem! And you can animate it!

Doing more tests now, just thought I would share those findings.
