Hi,
I'm wondering what is the best way to shatter a Martini Glass like this:

(Don't worry about the liquid, I'm only interested in the shattering-effect itself)

[li]I first tried it with a revolve-surface.I used Maya 2011’s build in “create shatter”. The result was that the programm crashes.

[li]After that I converted the Surface into a polygon object and deleted the history.(In this step I used many different tesselation settings)Pretty much the same problem: sometimes Maya chrashes and if not I got wired results (single debris where completely on the wrong place.

[li]Then I tried that with a plugin ( Ruins 3.1 ) but there I had the problem, that if the polygon object is to detailed, Maya also crashes. With low polygon models I get the right behavior but it’s looking verry ugly. I’m also having the problem, that the glass doesn’t render smooth anymore if i cut it into pieces. (Looks like the Glass has cracks before the bullet hits it)

Any Ideas what is the best way. (Is there also a munal way to cut a glass into many small random pieces)
Greez,
