Overall, I liked your site. I was a little surprised that the only 3d Flash element was upon entry. Almost seemed an afterthought, since the rest of your site is very intentionally flat.
As far as the navigation goes, there are two basic schools of thought:
I didn’t have any problems navigating your site, since on rollover, the names came up on the sections, but some people may not like it or find it confusing…especially on the buttons that display each portfolio piece, since they aren’t labeled in any way.
And finally, my personal taste: I’ve only seen like 2 sites EVER that I didn’t mind when they went fullscreen. Even if you give me an obvious exit button (which you respectfully did), I feel that it is a bit intrusive. Kinda like, you don’t like somebody you just met to walk up and put the tip of their nose on yours when they introduce themself. (Unless you’re single and they’re really really really sexy). That’s just me, though.
Overall, it was a nice visit. Clean. Good Load Times. Nice Lines. Very Nice Portfolio. Nice Little Exit Screen.
I do not like the navigation but the site has a cool concept. I think it just needs to flow in one direction.
:buttrock:
thanks for the replies
DainBramaged: Glad you liked it
Yea i like the idea of option two and tried to include slightly more abstract navigation which also has a pratical purpose in achieving more screen space.
The point about popup was also a biggy, i was worried about the whole fulscreen thing myself as they arent my best friend either. But i wanted the site to work on 800x600 screens and fullscreen would be the only way to fit it. But is it really necessary to work for this resolution do you think? if not id quite happy make it appear in a normal window.
Web Guy: thanks!, but what do you mean by flow in one direction? - more 3D OR Flat imagery? but not both?
Oh cool, nicely styalized. Not the most… functional of interfaces perhaps, strictly speaking. What with the nonlabled menus and such. Seems very nicely suitable for a private portfolio though, I really dig it. It’s a neat way the images load in each portfolio area as well, simple but so very slick
My main grief comes from the fullscreen, I hate it in general, and whilest yours didn’t come off as horrible because of it (exit button, and you can rescale the window) I’m still not fond of it. If possible, maybe do an auto-check for the user’s resolution, and pop to fullscreen if it’s too low? That, or give us two buttons to pick from, I’m sure you can come up with a creative simple and efficent way of presenting such a choice to the user
thanks Gaggle! im definately gona look into getting either a detection system for screen res or else an option on entry for fullscreen or normal site.
Ive actually changed the “fullscreen” to “maximised popup”. DainBramaged was refering to the proper fullscreen version that takes over the entire monitor. I thought the new popup wasn’t as frustrating for the user.
that image loader in the gallery was an absolute pain to setup, it dynamically loads in the jpgs and text in sequence and since im a bit of a novice in actionscripting, the copying/pasting/modifying of code took up many an hour of my life
cheers
The only thing I didnt like was no navigation “hints” and no music.
Other than that looking really good.
