I ran into a problem last night when I tried to command-z instinctively and shake gave an error about not being able to undo and then my script was dead. Not really dead but the whole node tree was gone. I didn’t save and tried to reload the script and nothing loads. I just get an empty project. I looked at the script in a text editor and it seems to be all there but shake wont load it properly anymore. Its not that crucial I get this script back but it would be nice to know how to prevent this in the future.
Shake 4 undo command destroys the script
Sadly this is the major flaw with shake. It’s undo is unreliable and often destructive. Shamefully Apple has failed to properly address this, most users agree that this is unacceptable in a professional program, yet seemingly nothing has been done !
I recommend writing an email to customer support explaining your problem and asking for their help in releasing a version of shake with this serious problem fixed !
Now Im just having trouble getting shake to load scripts at all. My scripts look in a text editor but nothing loads into shake.
run shake form the terminal and then drop the tex file in to the gui. if there is an error you shoul dsee it reported in the terminal. You may have to delet a few lines to make it work !
It is probably too late now since you have tryed running shake a few times since. Shake autosaves, next time when you loose a script, just load up the last autosave. By default it saves a new one after every certain amount of changes you do and only 5 copies before it overwrites the oldest, this is all cutomizable though.
Shake 4 undo is 10 times better than it used to be though. I can use it more often now and maybe 8 out of 10 times it works fine(unlike the 50/50 chance you had before).
The Shake4 undo has been significantly improved since 3.5… It still hates me at times, but it’s way better. If you mess up, check those autosaves that Deke mentioned.
In addition to autosave (which is the deus ex machina of Shake imo :applause: ) it’s always a good idea to have a backup solution for your project files. If you need to revert to an older version of a project beyond what your autosave vault has it can be a life saver and it’s a really handy way to merge changes from ideas in older projects.
Recently I tried playing around with CVS for controlling all of my project files, but it butchers binary data :banghead: Shake projects have worked fine thus far and it’s really nice to be able to roll-back to any previous versions of any project. Just check in your work at the end of the day and you’re good to go!
Remember… ALWAYS have backups of your critical data ![]()
