The MultiPlane node is pretty much just a wrapper with a nice interface for already existing Shake nodes.
All it really gives you is better positioning for planes and cameras combined into one Move3D node, followed by layer nodes. It also looks after ordering them the correct way.
One of the main things that’s missing from it is z-depth - there is nothing in there at the moment that would allow you to do intersecting planes. (If the Move3D node gave you some kind of z-depth data, you could easily use the z-compose node)
Multiplane is still very nice - the interface is good (uses OpenGL to give you quick feedback, although the actual render will still be software - this is the big advance here) - and it has an importer for camera data from a .ma file.
The new UI interface utilities are nice - you can have it so that you an tell at a glance what colour channels are going down a noodle (by its colour) and what bit-depth (by its style). You’ve also got something to show when nodes are concatenating, and it’s easier to see which nodes are being viewed/tweaked.
Undo works (or is certainly a lot faster than it used to be - I’ve not stress-tested it, though).
There are a few other new nodes, but I’ve not really had a play with them.
Oh, and adding trackers to RotoShape points is cool
