I started working on shading/lightning test to get more knowledge and try new techniques during free time. I use maya+vray. I bought a 3D car model and I try to recreate some materials. First I picked chromium plates on the front of the car.
The upper image uses 4 material combination. 1: basic shiny shader, 2: Slightly more glossy shiny material with a little bit of anistrophy, 3: dull dust shader, 4: rust and darker scratches material. then all of them blended together.
The lower image is just basic shiny shader.
Lightning is hdri+point light.
Only chrome has material there, other objects use simple shader just so that chrome is more visible (it is hard to see chrome in such environment by itself).
I used some color grading because raw image was looking plain and dull.
Let me know your opinion and give me some critiques on what you think about my chrome material.
Next thing I will do will be plastic. That grey part you see in the image, to be more precise. After that, I might give it a go for carpaint.
