Shading in Mantra?

#1

Hi!
I’m a newbie to Houdini, but I have an urgent task, I must make some shaders for our team project. I have experience in 3ds Max and Maya + Vray, but Houdini is a whole different software! I have understanding of basics of Mantrasurface, but the simpliest question confound me so much! How to connect maps to shader?!
I do like node-based systems, but a Houdini’s one really confuses. Can you suggest me with good and easy to understand guide about shading in Mantra?
I understand it’s very unserious, but I really don’t have any time to dive deep and learn everything from the bases, and I really need your help…

Thanks! But where to “plug” it in?)

I’m presuming you’ve assigned UV’s…

You can use either a texture or a color map VOP depending on how much control you need…
On a texture node the parameter is map, on a color map it’s cmap - then pipe your output to diff_clr (presuming that’s where you want your color to be - but is most usual). Of course if you’re making a metal you’ll want to plug it into spec too as with any other shading network…

If you’re using PBR you have to make sure your BRDF is plugged in from the Surface model to the Surface Output or you’ll get black renders.

Hope that’s enough.

I finaly start seeing some logic there)
