Latest Update: Concept / pre-visualization: setting the scene

So, when I started thinking about what to do for the secret agent challenge, I wanted to think about what older spies would have been like, such as from the 1920’s. I though this would be cool and retro, but when I tried to picture it my mind missed by a few eons and I ended up thinking about cavemen secret agents. Agents are supposed to be cool, stylish, and usually high tech and I rather liked the idea of a caveman trying to be these things; so that’s what I’m going for.
His name is Thag, and he is cool’s ancestor.
This is the general blocking that I was thinking of, I do apologize for the crudeness. Thag’s tied to a sphere(rock) on the left with an evil genius classically laughing on the right. The discombobulated cube on the rightmost part of the image will be some sort of evil machinery, and the vol-cave-no lair is erupting and exploding (which is what all those monkey-looking spheres are about). Thag has an escape planned out though, and it will require the pinnacle of caveman technology.
So this should give a bit more detail as to the concept’s style. I wanted to take a note from the Flintstones and make a few modern things with natural materials, so to explore that I sketched out Thag’s sunglasses. I somehow doubt that volcanic glass would make a great lens as I don’t think it’s transparent, but I think that makes it funnier, if only to me. This might also be the time to mention that I have my worries about this work, what with starting late, having a job, etc. But at the very least it should be challenging and hopefully provide some good feedback.
I was minus one operating system for a few days, and it’s becoming increasingly apparent that the deities of time are not with me on this one. I’ll still be trying to get as much done as possible though, and to that end here’s a head. I plan on adding more furrow to the brow as well the sunglasses sketched earlier.
Here are the glasses. They won’t be seen from too close up, so I’m not too worried about the minuscule stuff.
I haven’t gotten a chance to improve thag’s head yet, but I thought the glasses really added something so I wanted to share it. I’m rather pleased with how this looks thus far. Oh, and I apparently forgot ears, so I’ll see if I can’t put one or two of those on somewhere.
Hey thanks Animasta, I enjoy modeling props, so it’s nice to hear when they come out well. So here’s an updated head model, and in a bit more WIP in a few moments.
so, the body is very much in progress. Really I was just rather excited about the clothing and wanted to get a decent WIP of it out there.
So here’s what I’m thinking for the villain. Still some sculpting to take care of, but I feel like the general idea gets through pretty well thus far.
Also, it’s rather obvious that if the present rate continues there’s no chance this will be done in time for judging, so I’m hoping I can get a bit more time to work on this soon. I’ll be finishing this at some point regardless, but it’d be nice to submit something at least partly-finalized. Ultimately though, I’m just glad that I got to put an eye-patch on a dinosaur.
I’ve made some improvements on the doctor. From here I plan on roughing out an environment so I can start putting things in place. My hope is that this will explain a bit more about the concept and direction, as I didn’t do a whole lot of concept art.
so while starting to layout the set, I regretted more and more my lack of concept art, so I made my very in progress set into blocking/concept stuff. This should hopefully serve to better explain things, and certainly serves me better with blocking. Any comments are greatly appreciated.
So I forgot to post any explanation in that last submission so just in case things aren’t clear, here are my intentions. Thag (the caveman secret agent on the left) is tied up and on a boulder, his only means of escape is to rub two sticks together (serious gadgetry in those days) to burn the rope binding him. the green biped on the right is a dinosaur, and the brains behind the plot laid out on the board in the lair/cave. His maniacal laughter is of course because he’s captured Thag and his plan is working, evidenced by the volcano.
