Secret Agent Entry: Aurelien Rantet

#41

I can only agree in saying that the hours can’t add up. And for a student/jr level guy it’s astounding. Probably has to be a team, and just didn’t say that yet. And you’re right that first image shortly after entry was basically final with even the fx of the coffee in there.

by 7/10 you already modeled, textured, light, rigged, animated (motion blured frame), matte painted the BG, ALREADY did the fx on the cofffee cup, the laser from the robot eye, all the atmopherics. All the office modeled minutiua… to final render! …that’s true. It’s like you already had THAT clear a picture of what you wanted to do? Every one else was still story boarding.

Maybe you have some 'esplaining to do

EDIT: Just for reference:
by 7/15 Staszek Marek, probably the best all around guy in the competition, has
done his previs + animatics, and modeled a head!

I work alone on this project, it’s not a team work. If i work that fast is just because i work a lot! Maybe too much! I wanna work seriously on this project, to make a good film.
When i work, i target one objective ,i leave nothing to chance and i stay the course, i don’t spend time to setup things randomly and i get along to use only tips i know. That way i can work faster.
My render time are not very long because i don’t use advanced effects like indirect illumination, hair&fur or things like that. Maybe that’s why i work faster than people who use plug-in or things which takes a lot of time to setup correctly.
If i have not uploaded animatic on the precedent scenes it’s just because i was thinking no body care about it! But apparently not. So, for the next scenes i will up more previs and animatics, i sweare.
To answer the questions of Destruct007: I’m studying in France, I’m now in 3rd year and i study 3D since last September but not full time, i also study web-design and advertising. The video you have found on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5ti4raeaAU) is a team project we’ve done a few month ago. If you don’t recognize tmy style i’s just because, on this challenge, i try to do something new, and also because it was a team project, i wasn’t alone.
So i repeat myself, i work alone on this CG challenge.
Thanks for all your comments, i read all of them attentively.

well props dude. awesome work!

So did you have your first sequence completely done in one month? The first render was posted on July 10th and It’s obviously screen grabs from the final animation. People are taking note because the entry is really strong, there are a lot of professionals who know how long things take as they have been working in cg for many years. Maybe you could elaborate on a time line breakdown of your shots to help clarify your entry.
Really great work though, you should definitely be proud of it.

Aurel0988,

That looks great! Colors, camera, humor, sound … everything seems to work perfectly here.
Looking at your storyboards I assume you are done with 2/3rd of the film. That’s some speed dude!

Would be following this from here on.

LOL that still gets me. “I didn’t think anyone cared.” You’re new to cgtalk but damn it’s in the directions of the challenge, show your work, people care.

also you call your final render “first render” on 7/10 post. You should see everyone else in cg’s first renders, lol.

The issue is this too, we don’t see a HUGE chunk of work in progress. Infact we see 0 work in prorgess. Concept art to litterally final animation. very litterally final animation screen grabs.

When I model a lot in one night I’m even nervious people will say “no way!” you already had that model! so I try to show as much as possible every step of the way. You have a lot of buildings, sets/locations, lots of models that we never even saw in progress or at all until the final. What are we supposed to think?
No work in progress, none. That’s in the rules, you HAVE to show work in progress. Final animation screen grabs are not.

Edit: I’m unbiased in that you’re solo, I’m in a team, we’re not even competing. I’m just saying… pierzak has a point.

what stinks is that when you show your work and progress is protects you and makes others see how you did it what you learned what you did right and wrong. Now that you have shown no work in progress, there’s no way for you to prove that you haven’t spent the past year + on this project. You can go back to old files and show that, but that could be from 6 months ago. At this point there’s no way to show or prove that this was done for this competition not school work.

Good news is that this will look good on your reel, bad news is it might not qualify for this competition. I don’t doubt you worked on it and you are talented. I doubt you worked on it for only 5 1/2 weeks.

You say you are not using plug-ins? How did you do the explosion? It looks a LOT like afterburn for MAX. We don’t even know what software you are using! We know nothing, except it looks too good to be true, and you are a student. What do you think we should think? I cannot do what you have done in that amount of time, people I respect as very good I don’t think could do it.

I’m really disappointed. I’m new on this forum, this is the first serious competition i do and the first critics i receive says I’m a cheater.
I work practically full time on this project.
I’m sorry, i have not upload a lot of work in progress. And now you say I’m cheating and i can not prove you’re wrong just because i wasn’t thinking it was necessary! If i not upload plenty of works, it’s just because i think it was not good enough ( when i see work like that http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=292&t=773897), i just try to show the best i can do and if i do not explain a lot of things it’s because of my bad English. So if you want to kick me for that, so do it.
But give my one reason to cheat like you say i do! I’m not here to winning prices or to say I’m the faster CG artist, I do this challenge for know what is worth my work.

I think everyone needs to take a breath and a step back. destruct007 and pierzak, you guys are not the judge and jury here. The challenge judges will be the ones to decide if the provided backup work is sufficient or not. We will not tolerate users hijacking an entrant’s competition thread because you believe he’s not being honest about his work.

Aurel0988 HAS provided some WIP images. Personally I’d like to see more WIP images, but that is not up to you guys to decide. He’s not broken any rules as yet.

Just take it easy people.

#52

thank you for the clarification Kendhar. you are faster than me.

i am sure Aurel0988 will show us an amazing making off.

let’s go back to the Challenge guys !

.

Dude don’t listen to us. We’re not haters. Try to think of it as a big compliment. We think your entry is so good, we can’t believe it. Keep it up and blow us away.

Ok…I should quit now! Are you sure this wasnt done before the competition? Can’t wait to see rigs and wireframes! Nice Work!

#56

Thanks to khendar and Visionmaster2 to calm things down.
I promise i will make a big making of. And for the rest of the challenge i will daily update the forum thread.
And i swear, I’m alone on this project and i haven’t started working before the competition. Just tell me how to prove it to you.
Now i go back to work.

#57
