scripting auto-painting of movies

#1

Hello,

I’m trying to set up a Painter (X) workflow for auto-rotoscoping of movies (in the manner of what is easy to do with Synthetik’s Studio Artist). In other words, I’d like to, (automated) frame by frame set the clone source to be the current frame of the movie being processed, and then apply an auto-painting process to the canvas. The result would be an auto-painted version of the incoming movie.

The steps as I imagine them are:

  1. record a script comprised of several passes of auto-painting, combining a few different looks

  2. apply that script to any movie

So far I don’t understand how to do this. In particular, trying to record an auto-painting script action (using a clone source) doesn’t do anything–playing it back results in an emtpy canvas.

I should also mention that I’m new to scripting with Painter, and that there could well be some obvious things I’m missing. If this description isn’t clear, I’d be happy to post a video showing my attempted work flow.

Any ideas?

Thanks!,

Michael

Still haven’t figured out the auto-rotoscoping of movies, and trying to isolate the issues. The first issue, as I show in this movie, is that I can’t get auto-painting to playback properly from a script. If someone could set me straight on that, that would be a good start in the direction of auto-rotoscoping.

Thanks!,
Michael
