Scene: Old House

#1

Lately I bought a book with 500 3D models. On the cover and the prints in the book promised really good, high res models for only 50 Franks so I gave it a shot. Well, I learned why it was only 50 bucks :frowning:

Anyway, I decided to start modelling again and that’s how far I am now. Modelled and rendered in C4D and its far from being done:)

And here’s a shot from the 1st floor. Realized I need a few more windows…

thanks for looking and merry Christmas to everybody!

Looking good so far. I’d say the morph effect for things as seen through glass is a bit distracting as the warp in the glass would have to be tremendous to produce that significant an effect at this scale.

I’d suggest some dormer windows on the roof.

Texturing will make or break this shot.

#3

Well I think I’m done with modelling for now and will start with the texture work. This is gonna be a hard one, as texturing really istn’t my strong side…

#4

I like!
Keep it up!

#5

Ok… started with the texturing on the veranda. The wood planks on the veranda look ok in direct light, but when I look at them in this radiosity render, I think I’ll have to rework it, its way too uniform.

Oh, please don’t mind the ā€œdirtā€ on the housewall, its no texture, just a dirty nuts shader that got out of control

As always, suggestions are welcome…

#6

Looks good so far. The only thing i don`t like is the wood texture u are using its looks a bit strange.

#7

Looks good, but now it’s starting to look a little unrealistic. Maybe you can make the wood slaps individual pieces, no that’s too much work… Umm, try bump mapping the indvidual textures, like make the bricks more 3d looking and the roof tops, that’s my only criticism… It’s definitely grood…

#8

Model looks awesome… and your right the shingles do look kinda goofy and they dont pop… i cant tell you how to do this since i dont know the program yet… but i am an architecture student
and teh decking needs to be goin gin the same direction or parallel :… but i love the model looks great… keep it up

#9

I’m happily painting now. If only preparing the UV Map for painting wouldn’t be such a boring job :frowning:

I’ve done the outer wall of the 1st floor now and the veranda. I’m not happy with the roof of the Veranda, I tried to model the shingles, but this doesn’t help much too. I guess I have to try different render settings later. The bump map renders better in Lightwave or Messiah:Studio. So I thinks I 'll have to fiddle with the lightsetup - once I’m done with texturing

#10

Modeling is looking good. But the textures are taking away from the model right now. The wood still doesnt look quite right…you may try modeling every board seperately, it should not be too hard if you just do one and clone it, but i think that would bring more realism to the scene. The shingles look strange too, but i dont know what to tell you about that…maybe try modeling those too…just an idea. If the house has siding on it, i think you need to make it jut out more, or model it for more realism, then concentrate on adding grungy old textures on top. I know ive said to model a lot of the details, but trust me, i modeled my house a while back, and the siding and shingles looked a lot better modeled than they did with textures! Good luck, and keep us updated!

#11

Try This As a reference for the roof…

#12

Basicly everything on the outside is textured now and I’m happy with the texturemaps so far.

Next will be to adjust lighting so the white is not that much overexposed and make the white paint look more old, so if anybody has a neat trick how to add ā€œageā€ to white paint, please tell me

Many thanks for all your feedback and help, its very much appreciated!

#13

i would imagine that the whiote would yellow or brown get a little darker have some dirt on it… etc… but thats just me

#14

yup. Basically, add more dirt. Add mildew. and fade teh paint. it wouldnt’ necesarily flake off everywhere, and where it does, it won’t be clean wood, but wood that has paint ā€œcloudingā€ over it.

found a good tutorial on how to do roofs HERE

found that tutorial at http://deep.sitenest.net/tutorials/

hope that helps

#16

this is going in the right direction,

as for crits, well maybe just a suggestion,

but think about what happens to paint once it chips, dirt start to gather somehow the paint around it develops this bubbly characteristic, most paint chips give an indication of origin e.g. a crack in the wall, area that is most vulnerable to the elements, the idea is there just follow up on it you know what I mean.

mean model. cheers

#17

First of all I want to thank everybody here for the great feedback and suggestions you’re giving me here. This really pushes me forward  And here’s how it looks now. Its not perfect yet, but for my first texturing job I’m pretty happy with it.

For the roof of the porch, I think I will remodel this part too. It will be the third attempt then, I will surely take a deeper look in the tutorial Brian suggested.

#18

awesome job so far keep up the good work, i was just looking through the 3dstudio max tutuorials and found that tutorial and thought hey maybe this will help hope it does.

#19

great work here Swissphil:)
my only crit is tat you need to support the porch that supports the roof, but you are probably getting to that  cheers

Window glass looks cool. There is still something about the siding that doesnt look right…it looks too flat. Oh, and the door needs a door knob.
