Scale down the rigged object, all seems fine but the IK Goals not scale down proportionally

#1

As the title says i have got another problem i am spent nearly two hours trying to fix that on my own but without success unfortunately.

I just want to scale down all hierarchy with joints and already binded object to it…
I know i have to be in Model mode when i do scale of rigged object and everything put under one Null in this case i do but the goals (IK tag with dynamics enabled) dont respect that. Its handles are too far from where they should be. See the attached images bellow.

They do not scale as everything else do. That means my tentacles won’t follow the right place. I need help, please!

It looks like you’ve scaled the Null using Object Mode which is correct, so try in the IK tag, under the Tag tab, clicking Reset FK.

I tried your suggestion but without success, it beheaves strange. I have to change the scale of the object to fits it into my scene. So there must be a way

:warning: I were able to do the resizing by just paste the character into an empty document, hit Ctrl + D (or Cmd + D) and use the project scale. Then copy / paste it back to my scene. But it not allow me to be precize when do resizing…

Hi,

the problem occurs because of the keys of all the joint objects. Delete them and you will be able to scale the rig correctly.

i tried it but i ended up with the same issue as before. There is one way i found out it works for me is the import the object into new project and use the project scale value… and then import it back…

#6

Just to be sure. Did You also reset the bind pose in the weight tag after scaling?

#7

Hi nophoto to getting back here. I have tried what you wrote to me in your last post but it still beheaving strangly…
When i do reseting the bind pose in weight tag after scaling the model, it all gets back to it scale before… If i try to set bind pose first it displacing and completely deform my model, so nothing seems still to work till now…

#8

Sorry about the confusion. After scaling you have to set the new bind pose in the weight tag by clicking ā€˜Set Bind Pose’.

#9

I have tried it as well but without success unfortunately. Have you opened my project i previously attached? Because then you will see the issue.

#10

Yes I did and everything worked as expected. Unfortunately I deleted the file from my hard disk so that I cannot remember all of the steps exactly.

  • Go to frame 0
  • Switch off all ik expressions and the skin object.
  • Disable the turbulence object.
  • Delete all keys on every joint.
  • Restore the bind pose (Weight tag button ā€˜Reset Bind Pose’).
  • Scale the hole model including joints.
  • Set the new bind pose (Weight tag button ā€˜Set Bind Pose’).
  • Switch on ik expressions, skin object and turbulence object.
  • Tweak the dynamics

have you seen this tutorial?

I can’t seem to see any attached object.

i went through every step in its order as you write but i cannot do it with success. Please have a look on project i have attached and try to scale down the object od octopus to be the similar size of the ā€œnew size exampleā€ i created in the structure as well.

I tried my best, i am not novice but i cannot get over this one… oh well if you will have some free time and want to help me out to achieve what i want to do, just not hesitate and open the project once again, Thank you all for your replies. Much apprechiated!

Thank You for the new link to the file. At first I also had problems scaling the octopus. Until I noticed that the ā€˜object mode’ ist activated. Switching to ā€˜model mode’ solved all the problems and I was able to scale the model using the steps mentioned above.

Thank you very much to be patient about me! I finally solve my problem about scale down my already rigged octopus. I will definitelly keep it in my mind for future similar projects.

It seems that the model mode did that trick. But i am a bit confused because everywhere on the internet is mentioned that i have to use object mode while i want to change scale of rigged object… Maybe i am wrong but it doesn’t matter no more because of your help. Thank you! :sunglasses:
