Saving / Loading skin weights per joint per vert?

#1

Hey all

In my studio I seem to end up with this situation a lot where I’ve got good skinning on one mesh in the body and another version or whatever has good skinning on the head on a different skeleton.

I’m just wondering if there’s a way to take a somewhat pic n mix of skinning to avoid having to rework stuff?

thanks

Hi
Duplicate the mesh in the file which you want to have as final and bind to the skeleton. Import the skin weight map to this mesh (head weight) . Now select the vertex (head) on the other mesh and make a selection set. Copy skinWeight from other mesh to this selection set…

If you’re pulling data from another scene, it’s easier to reference the scene rather than import it. That way, when you’re done copying weights (or whatever you’re pulling in) you can just delete the reference, and not have to clean up all the other stuff (shaders, etc.) that might have been imported too.
