Round the back

Im working on compositing a sequence that involves a woman in a streetscape
surrounded by a bunch of virtual screens which she is touching and interacting with.

The screens are arranged cylindrically around her.

The way I have created this so far is in After effects a with a bunch of simple solids and applied a CC Cylinder Perspective Effect. I then comped this as 3d layer above the footage of the girl & Set the blend mode to add

It kind of works OK -but

What i really need to do is make the screens disappear when they go behind her. Without having the ones in front of her disappear too.

Maybe there is a better technique I could try?

Any suggestions???

well, there are 2 options that i’m thinking about:

chose the screen that you want to disappear, and keyframe it’s opacity when it goes behind her.

the other option is to just mask out (maybe it’ll require a little of rotoscoping, depends on what you want to achieve) the screens when they go behind her.

not an AE guy, but after you applied the cc cylinder on the screens, do they apear as a real cylinder in the 3d space? if so, then i would roto the girl, place that roto on a card in the 3d space in the middle of the cylinder and your done.

if it donest work the way above, you could try to build 2 half cylinders (each one only 180 degrees) the back one gets cut by the roto of the girl and the other one is always in front
