Rope Animation

#1

I am pretty new to animating and I have come across a problem.

I need to have a rope connecting object A to object B. When I pull on object A, I want the rope to pull straight and then start moving object B.

The objects are both going to be on the ground, moving in the y direction only. It seems like it would be a simple task.

Is there any way to do this in Max?

Thanks,
Matt

Time to venture into reactor dynamics, the manual is a PDF:
Reactor_Reference_and_Tutorials.pdf usually in the max help folder.

I’ve already went thought some tests with reactor and they weren’t really giving me the results I wanted.

I tried setting up bones inside a rope with an IK solver on it and it works to pull it tight, but I can’t get it to actually start moving the bones with it once it’s tight.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Moonlit Matt:

I have a small test movie that I can e-mail to you if you’d like. It was made in 3D Studio Max 5.1 with reactor and it simulates your senerio. It’s 640 * 480… 45 seconds long… and less than a meg zipped. (Just over a meg unzipped… oh yeah, and it’s DivX)

If it’s what you’re looking for… then I could send you the max file.
