Hi everyone,
My name is Wilmar Luna and I have had quite a crisis of identity lately. I had been working at a go nowhere job for 2 years encoding video for webstreaming. The management sucked, the pay sucked, the benefits sucked, and the commute sucked.
So then I got an opportunity to work at a small production company a lot closer to home, like 15 minutes. I would be going on shoots, doing After Effects animations, prepping video for broadcast (that I made myself) and editing!
There was only one drawback, when I went in for the interview, I felt horrifically uncomfortable. Sweaty palms, anxious, doubtful of my abilities. Then I found out later that the production company was way smaller than I thought it was going to be. It was just me, another video editor/ae guy, and a third video editor. And the worst part was, I would rarely interact with them and my computer would be right in front of the boss.
Normally, doing projects in front of the boss isn’t a problem. But when he comes up and says, “What are you doing? What is that shit? Dude, you’re wasting too much fucking time.” When I’m in the middle of just BUILDING a graphic, it gets stressful.
And I’m not one to crack under pressure (still haven’t) since I do live football games for the NFL on the weekend.
So I fell out of love in doing motion design for After Effects. I realized that what I really wanted to be doing was subtle VFX. I want to be the guy where you don’t notice that I made an effect for your shot. When I saw that awesome demo reel with the green screen replacement from Ugly Betty and other shows, that’s what I wanted to do.
But I’d also love to learn how to make awesome 3d animations and renders. I think I’ll specialize in compositing, but I’d love to learn more about Nuke, Cinema4D, and any additional After Effects is always a plus.
I’d also love to make a 3d animation for my published book The Silver Ninja. I will definitely be posting some of that artwork for critique and improvement.
Thanks!
