Roll bones: how HumanIK rig supposed to work?

#1

Did anyone ever use roll bones in HIK rig? I have 1 roll bone in forearm and one in arm. The forearm/wrist works fine as expected, but the arm roll bone do something completely opposite! I tried a lot of different HIK setting combination with all 3 (wrist/elbow/shoulder) IK controllers and the only result I got: shoulder rolling and the roll bone staying.
Why? What am i doing wrong? Is it possible to stop the shoulder rolling and force roll bone rolling?

This is generally how upper limb roll bones should work, the idea is to counter-rotate the rotations going into the main limb, hence holding the shoulder in place as the rest of the arm rolls around it. All you’ve got to do is correct your skinning, swapping the influences between your arm and upper roll joint

Sorry, i’m not sure what kind of skinning change do you mean? Besides of HIK the skinning works perfect. (check the pic) Shoulder bone is free to rotate shoulder in all directions and the roll bone allow me to fix arm rotation when the elbow is rotating without rolling a shoulder bone. (It’s a pretty basic skinning, and it’s impossible to swap influence between shoulder and arm-roll bones - the shoulder will not work if you rig it to any other bone than shoulder bone)

But I can’t achieve this results with HIK rig. Maybe it’s possible to find somewhere an example of working arm roll bone in HIK rig? For now i’m not sure it’s working at all, and I wonder did anyone really try it…
