roaring flames

I’ve done plenty of smoke and explosion simulations, but never had to do close up flames before. For this project I need a tire rolling by to be heavily on fire as if it just rolled out of an explosion. I can seem to manage small flames, like a lighter or small torch, but can not seem to figure out how to execute realistic roaring flames. Can anyone offer some insight on where to start?

My alternative is to cover it up with billows of smoke, but Id rather not do that if possible.
