Hi --------,
We are developing a 64bit version for V5. No scheduled date for release or
first public beta.

Thanks,

Supposedly…
" Rhino 3 RAM limit 1.6GB at every OS"
" Rhino 4 RAM limit at 32bit OS approx. 1.6GB "

  • Rhino 4 RAM limit at 64bit OS approx. 3.6GB …
Not sure about this on Winxp Pro x64 though …i am installing and checking it now.

So you can install Rhino 4 on X64 and it will run?

Runs great.
3.6 gigs all available.
It runs as a 32 bit app but does so pretty much flawlessly.
I have it running on xp pro 64…no issues with anything so far except a slight glitch-
the opengl pipeline option is disabled because i get blanked viewports…this probably is an ati driver problem.-(although i do have the latest 64 bit video drivers installed.)
Other than that it runs extremely super slick.

#4

I have it installed on my x64 OS but I thought you were saying as a 64 bit program, not in the x86 folder as 32 bit. I guess I always thought that if your program was installed as 32 bit, that it couldn’t take advantage of the extra ram. How do you know it has 3.6 gigs available?

Rhino4 is 32 bit so that’s what we are getting for now until rhino 5 and all the ram you can throw at it.
All winxp pro x64 is going to give you for a 32 bit app is all of the 3.6 gigs available
without any hassles…assuming you have the extra ram available aside from what x64 needs
…so if on your 4 gig system x64 is eating maybe 1.5gig from the start …(although that can be drop down to about 650 mb)…so it would be great if you wanted to use all 3.6gig to to possible have 6/8 gig.
All i did was load in my largest scene and duplicated it until rhino memory creeped up near
3.58 then it promptly sent an error out,it is the first thing i did when i got my new system,
i like to know the limits of my hardware and software.

I really, really hope that Rhino 5 will have a more intelligent fillet tool. They could take a page out of Amapi’s book; I’ve never had any problems making fillets in Amapi, but in Rhino it’s a frequent problem.

The fillets and chamfers problems Rhino always had and still have will probably remain because of the nurbs library it’s built around, like all applications built around the same library they all suffer from the same problems. It’s unfortunate but they’re not very likely to change that. Take a look at Moi3D, it’s based upon the same code library and it has pretty much the same issues with fillets and chamfers as Rhino has. Although it deals with them better than Rhino to be honest which is why i now rather work with Moi3D than Rhino.

What i’d love to see is the type of fillets and chamfers that Solid Works has, but that in applications like Rhino. That would be so powerful and good, they’re the best i’ve seen so far.

I really couldn’t agree more. I only have very limited experience with SolidWorks, but the fillets and chamfers were outstanding tools. Most CAD programs I’ve used have actually been able to handle pretty complex fillets between multiple surfaces, and I do wish they would adress that in Rhino. I like using Rhino as a way of sketching and designing in 3d, since I can’t even draw a straight line in 2d, and working in Rhino is such a quick and easy process that I hate to have to stop and figure out how to fix that one corner by trimming and blending surfaces.

i import into sw as a .step file to fillet, works great…
