Revisiting Another World

#21

Ahhhh this is great news!

#22

i soooooooo loved this game. it really felt different then everything out there, and if felt so real compared to a lot of other games at the time.

#23

this is very true, it seems like we are all from a time when gaming was pure not just about beating crack whores with a baseball bat. How I long for the time when gaming will be restored to its glorious state.

#24

Wao… the first memoriess i have of being in front of a computer are the ones of me playing this game to death (this and Lemmings)… it was sooo involving and suspenful and the riddles where very well crafted… such good memories

#25

I am pretty sure it was Amiga first. And yes, Lemmings was addictive . . . and first on Amiga . . . with better sound and graphics than the PC

#26

Bought it and the only problem is I want to play it instead of work now  We need Flashback and my life will be oh so much better heh

#27

so what is this download thing on the site ?

how would one go about purchasing ?
I don’t read french and the english is rather limited in explaining stuff…

btw, yeah Sega Genesis and Sega Megadrive are the same, just a different name for US / Europe so to avoid confusion I thought I’d use the US name (which led to confusion because a european guy responded, yeah that means YOU Urg …)

#28

I’d love to see a game like that in the future. I also loved Heart of Darkness - it drove you nuts, but it was worth it

#29

Well, eventhough i read french quite well, i don’t understand either how one is supposed to buy it ? Both links on french and english versions point out to a demo…

bought it and played through it in an evening, well worth the €7  I loved this game on the Amiga, it felt huge back then, now I realize it’s a pretty short game actually, but it’s still gold.

edit: if you download the demo, you’ll get links on the readme-html-page that pops up after installation, you’ll recieve a key-file that unlocks the whole game

#31

It seems you can only buy AW with credit card, is that right?

Bob

#32

The ending from AW is very open ended. I wonder if we will ever see a sequel. There is much that could be done with the world of ‘another world’

#33

I was wondering if a game like this could still sell nowadays. I mean, we were really good at these old games, back then, but have you tried one of them today ? I have found out that i now suck at games i used to finish… damn those games were hard to play, and quite frustrating in a way, just like Another World : first time you played it would take you hours to get pass the lion… i doubt that kind of games would sell today, in fact, we’re too used to linear stuff with no or little complications now.
Any thoughts ?

yes and no. would it sell? well it seems to be selling [but at a much lower price]. then again, it doesn’t take a huge team to make a game like this. as for game mechanics, yes, compared to today games, they suck. most old games from the Atari and 8-bit era have crappy controls [like having to press jump 3 seconds before you really want to jump]. that is how it worked back then and that is what made some game so hard.

but a game like this is only hard if you didn’t complete it, lots of Another World is memorizing attack patterns and when to jump [almost like Dragon’s Lair]. randomizing enemies wasn’t an option back then. still a good game.

#35

actually I think the opposite, all these new 3D shooters are way to hard for me. I also found AW quite easy compared to other action adventures.

This makes me so happy.

Every time someone asks me what my favorite game of all time was, I reply with Out Of This World.

Of course, they reply with Huh?

I’ve always thought that this should be remade for higher resolutions or as a Flash-based game seeing as how it was claimed to be vector based, even way back then.

Edit: Though, looking at the screenshots, I kind of which that the new version would keep the “cutout” look. Just at a higher resolution, instead of adding new details.

Edit2: “And, of course, the game in its original 16 color form will be available too.”

I’m assuming that means the original graphics at high res WILL be available.

Happy Again.

As Arvid says, you have an icon in the lower corner that says something like “Click here to buy full version”. Click it and it will open a web browser where you can purchase the key for the full version. For 7 euros it’s definitely worth it. I mean, here in the Netherlands you pay 5 euros for a Big Mac. And this is a lot more enjoyable than a Big Mac

#38

Quoted for agreement

Whoppers are the w1n !

#39

I loved the original [played it till my fingers bled]

But am i the only one that feels the remake looks… eh … not so good

Must be lonely where you are…

I know! I know!!

It needs more BLOOM EFFECT!!
