Resolution space on UV layout


Hi, is there any workflow where I could check that I would have enough resolution space on my UV layout before I start texturing.

I’m limited to 1024 x 1024 map for a game model and I sometimes found out that I do not have enough resolution on a particular area of the model for certain details that need to be on the part of the UV. This is very frustrating as I would then have to redo my UV layout and texturing where I’m already halfway through the texturing work. UV texture checker map did not really help me much but only check if there is any major distortion. unless I’m doing it wrong.

I don’t use any 3D painting software. Just 3Dmax and photoshop.
