Resolution issues with texture maps

Hi all

I posted on here recently regarding a similar problem where, when importing texture maps into Mari the resolution of ‘paint through’ images was far from adequate.

I ended up fixing this simply by changing the size of the UV map to 4k in Mari. The textures are for a game and as I was texturing a relatively small object at the time, I decided to scale the patches back down to 512x512 which was fine.

However, I have unwrapped and am about to texture the buildings in the scene, and even at 2048x2048 the resolution is just poor.

I have tried spreading the different faces of the building across 2 tiles, and even scaling up the front facing faces for higher resolution but it has not helped.

The buildings are incredibly simple, one poly per side.

Any ideas whats happening?

sorry not the best pictures but you can see what I mean, the resolution is just poor. Wandering if it could be a uv layout problem? Ive intentionally made the front of the building (tile1) larger as the back will only be seen from a distance.

how big is the paint buffer you are using…?
