There!
I posted the new one. Thanks for the “How to write a thred”. I do understand that some “nooby” threds can be iritating.
Thanks for helping us noobs write better ones!

Dumb questions are asked by laisy people, whou don’t take the time to dig for the info, they just want everything ready and at their disposal. I know this, because there are people who call me late at night, just to hear again what I explained (step by step) in the afternoon.
They are just affraid to experiment.
Just occured me: Mr Equinoxx should put there one more line:
When someone has hard time with something, should mention in the post everything he/she tried to solve the situation.

Well written!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

#43

just for my curiosity , how much for 3dsmax 7 + cs studio and all the plugins that i need as an modeler + all those licenses?

#44

Actually, Max 7 has character studio built in with no additional price. As for “all the plugins you need as a modeler”, I can’t think of a single one. Max has a robust modeling system. You can extend it with any number of free scripts, or write your own.

So the answer to your question is basically, the cost of 1 license of Max 7.

I know english isn’t a first language for everyone here, but it does make life much easier when posts are broken up into paragraphs.
I don’t mind trying to decipher someone’s question if it’s less than clear, but reading huge blocks of text is harder than text that is broken up.
Try pressing enter at each major point, and after you ask a question.

#46

Make sure you post what ver of max you are using. Especialy if you are using an older version.
I’m so sick of people not being able to open a max file after I have fixed somthing in there scene.

#47

Hey- how do you model a character?

Jk good point.

#48

I don’t personally mind if the mods sound harsh. If the problem escalates to such a degree where he has to get angry, then I think he has a right to crack down on it.
This community is probably the best I have been in, because of its professionalism (and the quality of the work). It would suck if it turned into a place where all that is said is “very nice” when critiquing a piece. cough… DA cough…

btw. is it preferred that questions are asked in a WIP thread (for a specific project) or in one of the application specific forums? (just in case I need help, but I kinda have to learn something first.)

Oh, another helpful hint is to use punctuation. It wouls have been fun to read my post if it was all one sentence without capital letters or commas or brackets or full stops (which are periods for you yanks).

This is a good issue to discuss…

My thoughts…

Pirated versions of s/w.

This is a catch 22. You see, the reason this place is so big isn’t because of all the people who are “Professionals” or “Gods” or whatever. This place is big because it is a good source of knowledge. Reason before this place got big it used to be cool, help all around.

Next thing, Why would someone spend 3 million bucks on something they plan on doing nothing with? in other words most people on this site can give a crap about the monetary reasons of what 3d can bring, but what it can do for them in a game. In other words Modders. They use the s/w to make models in a game and that would be about it… Example for me would be GTA III, some would be BF2, others UT 2k4…

Get the point.

I actually think this post just knocked the professionalism down a few notches.

But that’s just me.

As for yelling at people to do the right thing… Yes there is a billion sites about 3d good for them… This place 3dTotal, and a few other places are the same as this…

Anyway that’s all I have to say… If your nice people will follow, If you are mean people will revolt.

Learning Curve???

Ever hear of ADD/ADHD?(Altho I am not giving an excuse for everyone… I am one of those people who ask retarded questions so I can learn.)

Ya it works wonders, some people cant comprehend things like normal people… so they ask simple stupid questions to get a better grasp at it.

But when they get a clue look out cause their work can really kick ass… and they learn about 80% faster than normal people… Trust me on that one… I can prove it positive…

::EDIT:::
Knowledge is a powerful tool. Therefor it should be free, so all can learn.

OUTSTANDING MAGIG! bravo DeathGoth
give it to them, let them know, that the best come out of those that use pirated software.
they all know this and u’ve said it all, and deep in them they all know this but come in the open they will never accept this for whatever u call legal matters for the site, which i agree that with them but that doesnt mean they should get that rash with the issue on people like us.

i said people like us cos i’m one of them thouhg i’ve not come out with an outstanding work yet but i’m on it. and to be precise i would tell you that it would cost almost 500,000 bucks to get a copy of the max software in my currency which is naira and i bet u that non of you know that this is the Nigerian currency(doubt even if you know where Nigeria is)

and right here 3ds max and autocad are the leading design viz application and with the easiest resources.

so you moderators and forum leaders i would really want u to know that this software companies dont even consider the third world countries where when the price of their softwqare if converted to some local currencies will become outragoius and practically impossible to purchase not even the 600 dollars max 7 as said by eek

and who says there is nothing for an illegal software user? there is all that just needs to b done is get an outstanding workpiece and viola! u have a job at disney or any top studio frm ur portfolio then there that promots the software and then it will b paid for cos now the artiste will have money to pay for it. though i’m not supporting software piracy

i’m sorry if anyone takes offence in this but that is how it goes more like stages in life or the gravity that draws man to the earth

so moderators and forum leaders please i beg b mild about handling the issues

cheers all

Anyone gotta keygen for Max 5? NO… sorry, couldn’t resist that, Only joking. My son uses Max at school and now he has got a student licence that cost a faction of the retail price so he can use it at home as well as school.

#54

understood m8… Thanks

#55

Yeah, I can’t believe when people post with titles like “help me”, and ask questions that are easily found in the help files. It just cluters up the forum and makes it hard from them to get the actual help they need anyway.

Thanks Equinoxx for trying to keep the forum streamlined, double thumbs UP

#56

I rarely post, but I had to say:

The issue with warez-users doesn’t seem to be them using warez or illegal copies, the issue is them coming here and asking for stuff like keygens and serials.

There are plenty of warez forums out there they can ask these questions on, this forum is for help and advice on using the program, not ripping off the program manufacturers.

I see a lot of official sponsorship, promotions and competitions on here, provided by the companies who make these programs. I doubt these companies would be too happy to see the forum littered with requests for advice on how to rip them off.

And finally, the people getting their backs up cos they feel the mod was “shouting”…jesus, its text on a screen, you have to be reaaallly fragile to get upset over something like that. He’s not shouting, he’s just typing

#57

I totally agree with rules in the forums… I am a paying member of CG Society and I don’t really want to see questions about Keygens…

I am a Maya 2009 complete user I couldn’t afford Unlimited at the time… it does not give me the right to go steal Unlimited and nor would I want to… but look whats happened I am also a subscriber and Maya 2010 is now the total package!

I have SAVED up to purchase Max and Mudbox when the new releases are available… it seems to be a new age concept to actually save some money and purchase things these days.

Sorry to sound patronizing but if you want a new car do you just go smash into the Maserati showroom and take one? I would not think so.

I understand people are in all different situations… and I am sympathetic to that I really am.

But I certainly don’t agree with warez and then coming into a professional forum environment and big noting it as some great achievement.

I think the moderation is great! Well done!

#58

Dang, now I’m kinda scared to post at all!

I’m an overall cg and non-cg artist - half-amateur and half-pro (have been working for random companies for a short time) and I’ve learned to skillfully use many programs along the way. I’m also one of those people who post ‘retarded’ questions just to make sure I’m not doing something wrong or if there’s a way to do my stuff better. I can ask a question how to do something that already has a tutorial just to find out if there’s any better way of doing it.

I got the impression that this forum is rather for real professionals - at least judging from high quality of the posted work. I thought that being on a forum with real pros would help me elevate my skills because I want to be a pro modeller in this program. But maybe I should try some forum with lower skill level otherwise I’d get banned from here for being too stupid.

#59

I’ve seen some spectacularly stupid questions asked on these forums without anyone getting banned.

As long as you make a good faith effort to find the solution yourself you won’t run afoul of the mods. It’s usually pretty easy to discern between someone who’s too lazy to make any sort of effort and those who are genuinely in need of assistance.
