RenderMan / Displacement help.

#1

My first question is if Syflex is readily integrated into RenderMan. It seems to render some cloth things fine. Anyone have syflex/renderman experience?

My second, most important question is:
I have a coded RenderMan rope shader. When I apply it to my geometry it renders fine with no problems. (fig. 1)

(fig 1)

When I apply my shader to the created cloth (new output shape) it get the following: (fig. 2)

(fig. 2)

I know it is my displacement because I took off the displacement and it rendered fine. I’ve tried changing the displacement size, anytime even a fraction of displacement is added it does this. Anyone had success fixing renderman displacement in my cloth? Much appreciated, here are some more shots from different angles.

Last thing. If I can’t figure this out I’m thinking of constraining a second mesh to the clothShape , but no constraints will follow my simulating/cached cloth. Any pointers? I tried constraining just the vertices but it wont follow.

are you losing prman attrs when you create the cloth?
when syflex create cloth , last I knew it didn’t copy all the
user defined attrs that were present on the original geomtry

as for the constraint

you could make an procedure useing polySelectConstraint then feed that to an expression.
connecting verts from the cloth to the rendered geometry. A bit slow but it will copy the cloth vert positions
to the rendered geo’s verts.

Well, I’m not familiar with how syflex uses and manipulates the information from the polygon, but couldnt you create a wrap deformer which will follow the cloth and then apply your shader to the wrap deformer instead? Its kind of a work-around, but might work.

Located under animation -> deformers -> wrap deformer ( i think )

Thanks guys I got it working. The problem was mostly lack of enough geometry. The wrap deformer worked, as well as the polySelect, thx
