Rendering unknown file type???

#1

Hey guys

I’m trying to render out this animatic for my class project and I’ve tried everything, tif, png. jpg, even multiframe avi’s and other format exts. All resulting in unknown file type. It was working fine before. I didn’t change anything, especially in my system file types ( opens with dialogues ). I did reinstall Divix though for You-Tube is all I can think of that may be associated with the problem.

Any ideas?
Thx,

Not sure about the latest version of DivX, but often it tries to install its own player and image viewer - there’s a chance it screwed up your associations, even if it didn’t appear to. Why would you need DivX for Flash videos, though? I don’t see how that would help at all.

Try manually reassociating the files with your image viewer. I use XnView - best Windows has to offer. Also, for a video player, try using KMPlayer. It’s free and is easily the most powerful media player ever made, by several orders of magnitude. I’ve never needed to install DivX separately, and codecs are a non-issue with KMP.

If you go to your file and open it in Photoshop for example, what happens?

Hey Darkness whats up? Thx for the reply

On the You-Tube site under the Vid it says play in “Higher Quality Video” with Divix so I thought I would check it out. I don’t have PS yet, but I just last week got the Wacom Intuos 4 and they are offering PS for 50% off, so I’m waiting on a check. So right now I’m using the Gimp. But my file associations are back, I don’t know whats going on. They seem to be opening just fine now. Maybe things are back to normal, hopefully!
Thx for the KMPlayer! Dude thats cool! I just tried the screen capture, can’t seem to get it to work. Probably in the prefs somewhere. I haven’t got XnView yet. Looked at it. Not sure about that one. Have to do more looking into it.

Thx again for the reply Dark, See ya

Glad your associations are working again, at least. KMP is a biy cryptic at first, but you can do all kinds of wonderful things with it. Dig around in the prefs when you have time - you can screengrab entire clips, or convert them inside KMP for use in other apps, or all kinds of fun stuff. Also, the hardware overlays are sweet.

XnView is just a replacer for SuperJPG or say IrfanView, which is a stupid name for a program. XnView handles all file types internally, and batch conversions, runs Photoshop filters etc., but most important to me is the shell extensions for right-click batch processing. Say you’re in Yahoo Mail or something and trying to send an attachment, only your rendering was an .iff or .exr file? Right-click “Convert to…” and you’re set. Or you can select multiple files and do this, super-quick. And a billion other things that I use daily. The only real reason I brought it up here is that it resets and “takes over” all your image file associations (that you tell it to, of course) and lets you take back control from association-hungry apps like Quicktime, DivX, Photoshop, etc.

Just some ideas. Hope KMP helps, and if you don’t use XnView, no big deal! It’s your world!
