Rendering from Wings on OSX

#1

What do you Mac users out there use to render from Wings? I believe I have the Yafray renderer installed properly, but I keep getting errors when I try to render. I posted to the Yafray forums, but still waiting for a response.

Does the Povray plugin, which is linked on the Wings3d home page, work with OSX? If so, how do you install it?

Whats the best way to import Wings models into Blender? If I go to the import menu in Blender, I get "Python scripts get installed here somehow’… how? where?

Can anyone recommend a good renderer other then the ones I mentioned here? Preferably one with good usage and installation documentation for OSX?

Thanks!!

EDIT: OK, I managed to get the Povray plugin installed, so I can export RIB files. I couldn’t figure out how to render them from povray, but I was able to produce a render by using 3Dlighter.

I would appreciate anyone could hold my hand bit, and help me get the obj importer working in Blender.

i render mostly with yafray in blender GUI altho im learning pov also. in blender try turn off xml export in yafraysettings, it makes xml file instead of rendering in a window if tou have it turned on. altho u get more control if u render the xml file directly in yafray instead of via blender plugin. its a tradeoff between usability and control.

btw if you find a way to export wings to pov lemme know

Hi zbgump,
if all you want to do is render a still image then 3delight and 3delighter would probably be one of the best ways to go. Since renderman is considered by many industry standard, you should have no trouble finding documentation for it. In terms of exporting wings3d models into renderman, you can use the Ribbit plugin by Danni Coy http://www.midcoast.com.au/~rgcoy/software.html . The only draw back is that the Ribbit plugin for wings3d cannot export more than one material per object. If you wanted to animate your wings3d models in blender, then I have good news for you. Blender IMPORTS wings3d files.

(File > Import > Wings3D (.wings) . . .) Since blender only supports quads and tris (to my knowledge, I might be wrong), you may have to quadrilate your mesh before you import the wings3d file. Once in blender, you can animate and render using its rendering engine. The wings3d import command works with blender version 2.34 so if you have a previous version you might want to download the latest version.
