Renderam, to AFFINITY AND BEYOND:)

#1

Hey guys,
My usual posts lately have been b&tching and moaning about CA tools… but this time,
I have an upcoming job that I am going to want to use EI for which would entail
me needing to utilize renderama.
I usually just spit out stills but animation will be needed for this.
So I have renderama working just fine on my 3 dual processor boxx machines, with dual amd’s - 4 cores on each machine, going just fine.
But my question is:
Should I set each render camera/slave to affinity for a processor?
It seems to run fine leaving it up to the os on how to spread out the processor load.
WinXP pro. btw.

thanks for any info.

I’m wondering if renderama can render across the internet with the appropriate ip address?
anyone?

just curious. When my setup is finished I’ll 12 cores running at 2.2ghz, maybe if someone needed rendering, I could offer up my machines?

I think if you have a permanent IP adress which is registered with the Internet it should be no problem. If your machine is behind a router/firewall with a dynamically assigned IP adress, i assume this would not work.

Hey Stefan,
yeah, I currently have a permanent ip address.
If anyone would like to try with a super simple project, I’d be up for it.

Let me know

It does work, even with firewall, and dhcp on the internal network.

You have to configure your router and do some portmapping.

Lets assume your external ip adres is 123.45.6.78

Your slave is running on the internal ip address 100.0.0.1
and the slave uses port 2020

In the config of your router map port 2020 to ip: 100.0.0.1

When I want to use your slave, I use this number 123.45.6.78:2020 in renderama

Cheers

Hans

PS: Rendering over the internet isn’t very practical, on projects with lots of big texture-maps

Thanks for the info Hans, i didn´t know that.

Mike, if you have time in the next hour(s) i would like to give it a try with my simple JingJang project file (single image frame). Is it possible that we can communicate via Skype or Google while testing this? (if you like to try it with me via the Atlantic…)
But i´m on 6.5 and never did a Renderama job, but i quickly read the manual about it and it should be easy?!

Let me know,

Stefan
