Render farm for single frames?

#1

Hi. I mostly render single frames as reference for illustrators to draw backgrounds. However, some of these frames take a long time to render. Is it possible to set up a render farm to only render single frames? I think this is probably not possible, but thought I’d ask anyway. Don’t render farms usually work on one frame per processor? Is it possible for multiple processors to render one frame? I am using Lightwave 9.2 on intel Mac Pro with OS X 10.5.2. Thanks for your help.

Yes, there are renderfarm controllers that allow that and work with all programs that are able to deal with region rendering, as Lightwave does.

There are two benefits form this approach:
-you can render big images way faster if you distribute them over several computers
-you can render pictures that would be impossible to render otherwise becasue of RAM limitations. This is useful even if you only use one computer (as it will render several parts of the image one at a time and assemble them all in the end)

Not all renderfarm controllers allow this, AFAIK, but at least ButterFly Netrender, Muster and Royal Render have this feature. Not sure if any of those work on Mac though, check them yourself.
