Render channels

#1

Im trying to output different channels for compositing purposes. I got the hang of doing it with the Architectural_Multi_Out, which is pretty straight forward. Now let’s say I wanna do the same with a phong, get a store_in_channel and get the diffuse/reflection/refraction into different channels,BUT without using the built in Softimage channels, I wanna learn how to do it on my own. Basically its because I have a diffraction shader for a diamond, and I dont have a clue how to set up the render-tree to extract the channel from it!?

Thx for help guys

Ok, so the best place for you to begin your research is in passes. Specifically, under the Render menu set Edit > New Pass > Refraction or Reflection or empty. Be sure to read up on the passes in the manual.

Investigate the pass in the Explorer, filtering passes and partitions (shortcut P with cursor over the Explorer). Notice you have two partitions in the pass. One is named “Partition_Refractive”. Start here. Also, notice the overrides. They are only visible if the pass in the “Current Pass”.
