Relationships

#1

The use of relationships is something I’ve been neglecting in the software.
It’s a pretty powerful aspect of AM.
I don’t know if alot of peopel are using them or not, but Ive been using expressions to do things that relationships can handle with ease.

Oh man …that’s great !
Nice !
I just opened my model and decided to do some work on her today.
I modeled her with her mouth partly open and I want to create a pose slider ( um… relationship ? ) of her mouth closing to a static pose at 50% and then a smile at 100%.

The problem that I am having is that I have a huge mess of bones in her mouth and I can’t just grab her jaw bone and close her mouth, while moving the corners of her mouth. I can’t see past the mess of bones.
( I am trying to copy Bertram’s face rig )

I have all of the bones hidden BTW ecept the jaw/ tongue/ mouth bones, but they still appear in the relationship view.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks

The next few weeks promises to be quite inspirational for all of us in the U.S.
Not only is Robots on the big screen, but The Incredibles is coming out on DVD in a couple of days :bounce:

I think you’d have to have a nested relation in the relationship telling the bones to be turned off.
The relationship windows can get a bit confusing I think. Probably why as many people aren’t using them.
But if you use them enough you start to get comfortable with it… least thats how I feel.
I’m not sure what you’ll need to do to get past the mess of bones.
After reading the html help files on the hash forum, I’m not so sure that the crazy huge bone set up it the bes way to go with the software.

I would try and turn the bones off you don’t need from the modelling window.

Whoa … sounds complex. Maybe I’ll just move the jaw bone to close her mouth, switch to edit mode ( which makes the bones dissapear ) and move the cps around .

What is your bone set-up like in that arm ? Do you have any fan bones ( what ever that is )

Hey Vegan, I actually didn’t create the model or rigging for this particular arm.
Someone posted the arm to the Hash forum.
What I did was put a texture map on the arm and set its strenght to change in response to the forearms bone rotation.(also put some toon settinngs on it.) with a relationship.
But the arm does have a fan in it.

Hey Vegan, just curious, what are all the bones in the model’s mouth for? Wouldn’t anything in that area be better handled with pose sliders?

In Animation Master muscle movement moves in straight lines unless you put in additional key frames, using bones it is easier to make things move in arcs. The bones are actually moved using relationships that are controlled by pose sliders. The mouth control system on Bertram is based on the setup that Victor Navone came up with on his character for “Big Bang”.

Vegan, for an easy way to make bones disappear when needed, make a new on/off pose/relationship and select the bones you want to have invisible and hit the “J” key…then, when you want whatever group to disappear, you just turn on the pose.

Sorry I’ve been taking so long to do it, but, I have a tutorial in the works for Bertram’s face…hopefully, I’ll be done sometime this week. It’s been pretty hectic for me the past couple of weeks.
